INTRODUCTION

MODULE OVERVIEW

When you are a teacher, there are a lot of expectations you will face. People think
that you are capable of everything and anything. There is no room for mistakes
because judgment will be along the way.It is really very fascinating if you see someone
who flawlessly speaks English. Future elementary teachers, whether you like it or not,
there will be a time that you will face this kind of challenge. A challenge to talk in front of
many people using the English Language and to use it in conversing with your future
pupils. Also, there will be a time that you will teach the subject itself. Therefore, did you
ask yourself, how then I improve my speaking capability?
Improving your ability in speaking English is very difficult most especially if
English is not your first language. To tell you honestly, it takes a lot of training and
efforts.They say that you cannot give what you do not have. If you really want to give
everything you know to your future teachers, it starts with gaining some to others also.
In this module, it will help you to understand the art of English Language.It
includes
understanding of the English language, the nature of Language, teaching English as a
second language, and the role of English in Bilingual/ Multilingual Setting and of course
the role of English Language in the 21 st Century. We need to understand first the
language, in order for us to use it.
Activities expected in this module are the following:
1. Group presentation of the assigned topics
Each group will be given 30 minutes to present.
2. Quiz
1 hour
3. Individual activity
1 hour

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After carefully studying and completing this module, you should be able to;

a. To share the thoughts about the nature of the language.


b. Explain some theories about the language.
c. Describe the roles of the teacher.
d. Describe the roles of the student.
e. Appreciate the value of the language, the students and the teacher.
f. Participate in the activities regarding the nature of the student.
g. Collaborate with classmates.

LEARNING CONTENTS

Let’s Collaborate!
Future teachers, let’s challenge yourself, try to look for the explanations of the
following topics below.

BEFORE PRESENTATION
Your instructor will group you into 7 with at least 7-8 members.Each group will
have assigned leaders. The leader of the group will assigned the topics to the members of
the group and prepare also for the presentation. Written activity will be submitted before
the presentation schedule. No format required, just follow your own format. Do not forget
to cite your references in your written output. Do not forget to write the members of the
group in the activity at it will serve as EL103_SG1_Activity 1. Activities will be submitted
in MSTEAMS.

DURING THE PRESENTATION


Each member of the group will be discussed their own work. Each group will be
given 30 minutes to present their activity. Copying works to your classmates will not
be given points. Copying includes same thoughts, same references, same explanations,
same strategies and the like. Absent members during the presentation will not be given
points. Powerpoint presentation will be needed, if there’s no laptop, you may use other
strategies to discuss your assigned topic. Remember, a teacher should be creative. Do
not forget to cite your references every time you present.You may or may not attend the
presentations of other groups but please make sure to attend your scheduled
presentation date.Do not start on motivation, you may present immediately to your
explanation.

AFTER THE DISCUSSION


Your instructor will discuss other information about the topics. Prepare for the quiz
and individual activity.
