Social Reform & Social Media: Working Together to Create Change

Unit 2 Final Project

Due Friday, October 16th by 11:59 p.m.
Summative to Replace Lowest Summative Grade

Over the last month, we have discussed a wide range of English topics related to social reform and
social media. Some of these topics include the following:

• Bias and the bias spectrum

• Logical reasoning in the form of inductive and deductive reasoning
• Logical fallacies that undermine an argument
• Rhetorical appeals: Ethos, Pathos, Logos

Now, I would like to you to put everything you have learned together and complete a final unit 2
project. This project will consist of two parts: Writing and Visual Media. You may work with ONE
partner, but each of you must make a submission (Individual written essays, but both may use the
same visual media).

Instructions

1. Reflect over the various social reforms we discussed in class. Is there one that you are particularly
passionate about? Or, was there a social issue that you are concerned about, but we didn’t talk
about it in class? If you could affect change on a social issue, what issue would it be?
2. Select a social reform or social issue that you would like to support.
3. Write a persuasive essay, following the writing process and format, that takes a stance on whether
or not social media could be used in a beneficial way to promote awareness for your reform or
issue. (The prewriting process must be submitted with the essay.)
4. Create a visual media presentation that highlights your chosen reform or issue. Be creative and
make sure you incorporate all the requirements listed on Part Two: Visual Media page.
5. Upload both your essay and visual media project (in the form of an attachment or link) to the
Social Reform and Social Media: Working Together to Create Change assignment.
Part One: Writing
Instructions: Go through the writing process and construct a persuasive essay.
Extra credit will be awarded to those that demonstrate all the steps of writing.

Written Composition: Persuasive

Read the information in the box below.

Social media tracks everything we do and helps

spread information. Honestly, if you are reading
this, I might need to go through the writing
process again. Just cross me out.

others to know about it?
2. Any biases you might hold about your social reform?
