INTRODUCTION
Passenger car units (PCU) of different types of vehicles are required to convert a mixed
traffic stream into a homogeneous equivalent, and thereby to express the mixed traffic
flow in terms of equivalent number of passenger cars
Earlier studies have reported that PCU for a vehicle is dynamic in nature and changes
with traffic volume and proportional share of a vehicle type in the traffic stream
The present study provides PCU values for different types of vehicles typically found on
interurban multilane highways in India at different levels of service (LOS)
Finally, PCU values are suggested for different type of vehicles at different LOS and for
different traffic composition
The following PCU analysis was done on the basis of finding out traffic intensity inorder to
design better and accordingly keeping in mind abouth the increasing intensity at different
intervals of the day
This analysis gives us a basic info on volume of vehicels and people so as to design and
plan with amost detail

CONCLUSION
• THE PEAK TIME DURING THE WEEK DAY I.E WEDNESDAY WAS FROM 7AM-9AM IN THE
MORNING AND 5PM-7PM IN THE EVENING.
• THE NUMBER OF 2-WHEELERS WAS HIGHER THAN THE OTHER VEHICLES DURING THESE
PEAK HOURS.
• THE VEHICLE COUNT DURING THE WEEKEND I.E ON SUNDAY WAS CONSIDERABLY LESS
THAN THE WEEK DAY.
• THE PEAK HOURS ON SUNDAY WAS FROM 3PM-6PM.
• MONDAY BEING A GOVERNMENT HOLIDAY AND A FESTIVAL HAD PEAK HOURS FROM 4PM-
9PM.
• THIS WAS BECAUSE OF THE INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF PEDESTRIANS AS WELL AS
VEHICLES WHO ATTENDED THE PROCESSIONS IN THE EVENING.
• PADIL JUNCTION BEING CONNECTED TO A NATIONAL HIGHWAY ALSO AFFECTS THE VEHICLE
TRAFFIC.

CONCLUSION
Ahe peak hour on the working day is 8-10AM in the morning and 3-5PM in the evening
As there was school nearby the pedestrian count increased drastically during the school
timings and there was no dedicated pedestrian pathways and signages there.

CONCLUSION
THE NODE MAINTAINED WAS THE SHORTER ROUTE TO REACH THE RAILWAY STATION
AND PASSED THROUGH A RESIDENTIAL AREA. HOWEVER, THIS HAD THE LOWER PCU
VALUE COMPARED TO THE OTHER ROUTE.
MAJORITY OF TE PCU VALUE WAS DUE TO 3- WHEELRES, 2-WHEELERS AND
PEDESTRIAN.
ALSO, VERY FEW 4-WHEELERS WERE NOTICED DURING THE 3 DAYS.
THERE ARE NO BUSES RUNNING IN THIS ROUTE AND TRUCKS WERE ALSO NOT NOTICED.
THE MAIN REASON BEHIND THE LOWER MOVEMENT IS DUE TO THE NARROW ROAD
(AROUND 3.5M) NEAR THE MAINTAINED NODE ALONG WITH SHARP TURNS.
IT WAS ALSO NOTICED THAT PEOPLE WERE NOT AWARE OF THIS ROUTE AS SOME OF
THE VEHICLES STOPPED TO ASK FOR DIRECTIONS.
HENCE, THIS IS A LESS PREFERED ROAD OF THE TWO.
PCU VALUE GOES UP DURING MORNING AND EVENING.

CONCLUSION
THIS ROUTE IS COMPARATIVELY NEARER TO THE RAILWAY STATION FROM THE CITY BUT IS
VERY NARROW AND CONTAINS SHARP TURNS.
HENCE IF THE ROAD CAN BE WIDENED AND THE TURNS CAN BE SMOOTHENED, THEN THIS
WILL SURELY BE A BETTER ENTRY/EXIT POINT.
ALSO, SINCE THE NEW D.C OFFICE IS GOING TO COME NEAR PADIL JUNCTION THERE WILL
BE A LOT OF TRAFFIC DURING OFFICE HOURS WHICH IS ON THE WAY TO THE STATION
HENCE, CHOOSING THIS ENTRY WILL HELP DIVERT TRAFFIC AND REDUCE TRAFFIC

CONCLUSION
Main road
This road is connected to the main road between pumpwell and padil which is directly
connected to nh66 and nh73, so the vehicular movement is more in this road.
Day 1:
Since it is working day traffic peak was higher compared to Sunday 1/9 and Monday
2/9 which was a government holiday.
Day 3:
Due to flood in the underpass road which connects to nh66 traffic was very less
compared to the other 2 days.
2 wheeler was highest compared to other vehicles since it was a residential zone.
8:00- 11:00am and 5:00-8:00pm was the peak hours compared to rest of the day, since
students and employees travels at this time.
Inner road
Less vehicular movement in this road since most of the people are unaware
about this road.
