Answer 1:
The culture in Mississippi Power was like, they were trained for the ‘can do attitude’. The culture
maintained and practiced there was innovative, outcome oriented and encourage to take risk. There
was unquestionable trust of bosses on their employees and managers. Everyone knows what is
expected from them whether in some alarming situation or daily routine stuff. Decision making powers
were decentralized for everyone. These all cultural aspects help them recover the Katrina hurricane
disaster in just 12 days.

This kind of culture is essential for companies like Mississippi Power because their employees and
managers need to be proactive and innovative enough to take prompt decisions in uncertain situations.

Well talking about drawbacks, there aren’t many but managers and employees can some time take
advantage of the trust of bosses. Decision powers are divided so there might be contradiction among
decision makers.

Answer 2:
New employees will learn and adopt the organizational culture mainly by two activities.

1) Training the employees.


2) By observation and be a part of that very culture where top level management and older
employees lead by example will help the new members learn and absorb the organizational
culture quickly.

Answer 3:
Basically, every stakeholder is important in some aspect for Mississippi Power but the customers are the
most important ones. They have to be taken care of at any cost and that is what the highest priority of
Mississippi Power. Other stake holders also hold significance like employees, managers etc.

Talking about concerns, every stake holder will have their own set of concerns related to the
organization. Likewise, customers concern will always be top quality service to be provided. All mishaps
and failures to be taken care of immediately. Employees and managers make sure that company’s
activities run smoothly and deliver what is required. Same goes for shareholders.

Government and its policies are also important in this case, but the management of Mississippi Power
unexpectedly well in a disastrous situation which government can only think of that’s why they were
rewarded with an award of being so much proactive.

Answer 4:
Other organization can learn many things from Mississippi Power’s culture. Motivation, training to
employees, risk taking and innovative environment automatically results in increase in productivity and
problem solving for them. Their culture is visible by their daily routine activities. Being proactive is the
key here, the ability to make decisions at critical situations and having a clear objective, clear lines of
responsibility to managers and last but not the least, trust worthy environment.
