To Whom It May Concern:

It is a great honor to write this letter of recommendation for Dr. Helen Eckmann who is
applying for a promotion from Associate Professor to Professor. I have known Helen for
over five years, and can attest to her superb leadership and mentoring skills. She has
helped the GAC committee and me personally, as well as making significant
improvements to courses in her own department. She has a genuine concern for the
Brandman students and faculty. Her peers always speak highly of her. She goes “above
and beyond” what is required to ensure that the Brandman family gains in so many ways.
Helen has been on numerous university committees and always steps up to the plate to
help in any way she can.

Aside from her effective teaching style, Dr. Eckmann is also well-liked by her fellow
faculty members. She is always available to provide assistance to anyone in need and
provides able leadership in several different committees. My personal association with
her has been on the GAC committee for the last several years where she offers valuable
help to all of us as we try to make strides in bringing academic integrity to the forefront.
She is always available to answer questions and read our suggestions whenever they are
sent to her and has provided a trained eye to seeing what is needed that may have been
missed. She helps us to be the best that we can be. She was also on the FPC committee
for several years. She gives graciously to help Brandman University maintain its high
standard for learning.

She has an easy-going disposition and is quickly liked by all that meet her. She helps to
make the working environment a pleasurable one. Dr. Eckmann heard that I needed to be
assigned a mentor and she jumped right in and volunteered. I can’t put into words the
difference she has made in how I teach and how I approach obstacles. She started right in
assisting me in seeing how to temper myself and I think my improved scores and student
comments tell all how much of an impact she made in my career and my personal
approach to students and peers. Helen has remained steadfast and a constant stabilizing
influence for me even when my mentoring year completed. She encourages me to be the
best that I can be, even when I don’t think I can. She jumped in and has helped me to see

new and better ways to look at things. She is an amazing person and loves to spread her
joy and wisdom. She shares openly and freely to all that need.

Helen took over the helm of the GAC committee and made strides that had not been seen
previously. She has made GAC successful and focused on what comes next. I felt
privileged to have participated in the growth of this committee and how far we have
brought the Academic Integrity work and she was invaluable in the recent writing,
processing, and filming of the faculty instructional video. She always has the calm, quiet
voice of reason that helps to guide the rest of the faculty when in these stressful
situations. She is supportive to other faculty when issues come up and she is that same
way with her students.

Dr. Eckmann has pursued becoming involved in her passion to work with the business
and supply chain community and teaches us all, faculty and students, on how we can
become knowledgeable and more skilled about this subject. She attends conferences in
her specialty as well as presenting to share her knowledge and supporting her work
community.

Dr. Eckmann has been an asset to our university and to me personally. I am happy to hear
that she is applying and is eligible for this elevated faculty position. As my friend (which
I am so honored to be able to call her that) and respected colleague, she deserves this
promotion tremendously. I strongly recommend that she be given the position for which
she has applied. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact
me at 954-817-6760 or rmilstei@brandman.edu.

Sincerely,

Dr. Ruth Milstein
