8. Hemodynamic changes
- Increase in blood volume
- Increase in stroke volume
- Increased cardiac output
- Reduced systemic vascular resistance and blood pressure
9. Gastrointestinal changes
- Stomach and intestines are displaced upwards and laterally by
enlarging uterus.
- Decreased or sluggish motility from the effects of progesterone on
smooth muscle.
- Distention and hypotonia or relaxation of gallbladder
10. Renal system
- Increased blood flow to the kidneys
- Progesterone causes relaxation of ureter
- Increase in renal plasma flow
- Bladder is compressed by the weight of growing fetus
