If we differentiate the two, CRIME PREVENTION is more on passive measure and created before
the crime happens. Any activities which attempt to eliminate the crime prior to its perpetration can be
considered as crime prevention techniques like patrolling which serve as a deterrent to those people
who plan to commit a crime. If we talk about CRIME SUPPRESSION, it is a more aggressive and active
measures used by the police to apprehend those people responsible for the commission of the crime. It
is also used to ensure the safety of the community in strict manner like stop and frisk strategy.

POLICE VISIBILITY is more like measures used by the law enforcement to engage within the
community and to make them feel secured at the same time, to intimidate a person who plans to
commit a crime. On the other hand, POLICE OMNIPRESENCE is similar with police visibility and the only
difference is that they leave a big impression in that place that even though there are times that they
are not in that certain location, the criminals will hesitate to commit a crime because they know that
there are presence of these police nearby.

The THEORY OF POLICE VISIBILITY is emphasizes that if there is a presence of a police, the
criminal cannot or will hesitate to perpetrate the crime because one of the elements of the crime
triangle will be removed which is opportunity and will result to lower crime rate. While the LOW
PROFILE THEORY is the exact opposite of the former because it focuses on giving the criminal an
opportunity to perpetrate the crime believing that there are no police present which result to its
apprehension.

INSTRUMENTALITIES

The relation of the diagram above in the formula of the crime is the opportunity represents the
different circumstances wherein the criminal given a chance to perpetrate the crime like the presence of
the victim and the absence of the police, the motive is the desire of the criminal to perpetrate the crime
and the stronger the desire the more the crime will likely happen, and last is instrumentality which
represent the means or the tools of the criminal to perpetrate the crime.
