A Reaction Paper about the Scientific Method of Research

There are lots of things going around us that are still unresolved. Nonetheless,
through the innovation of scientific methods, as one of the sources of knowledge, some
of these were acknowledged. It resulted in different theories, assumptions, and testing
to explain and discover its causes. As for science in every action, there is an equal and
opposite reaction. In other words, there is a cause and effect in every phenomenon.
Apart from the scientific method, other sources of knowledge are experience and
authority. However, these sources are less reliable compared to the scientific method of
research. For scientific method are a systematic observation, investigation of ideas, and
interpretation of data. Also, it is a process for experimentation and solving problems that
give us concrete evidence. Indeed, this method of research is more reliable and
efficient, it involves an intricate process, and it contributes to the development of
different areas like in business.  

Undeniably, the scientific method of research gives us a more detailed analysis

of things around us. There is an accurate classification of facts and observations of their
correction and sequence. As a result of this method, there is the establishment of many
theories, laws, and testing. Though it gained many arguments and controversies as it
clashed with different ideologies and religious beliefs, this method is still accepted by
many. Likewise, the scientific method of research is more reliable and efficient
compared to other sources of knowledge like experience and authority. Since our
experience can be inconsistent when applied to different circumstances. Authority can
also be unreliable because this source of knowledge involves accepting new ideas
since some authority figure claims that what they said is a fact. These authorities
include the media, parents, teachers, doctors, religious authorities, and the government.
While in an ideal world we should be able to trust these authority figures, history has
taught us otherwise and many instances of barbarity against humanity are a
consequence of people reluctantly following the authority. Since, authority can be
biased and merely rely on its judgment, intuition, culture, and ideology in arriving at their
conclusions. However, undeniably that most of the information we acquire is through
authority because it takes time to research every knowledge we learn through authority.
However, we can learn to evaluate the credentials of authority figures, to evaluate the
methods they used to arrive at their conclusions, and evaluate whether they are biased.
Hence, it is important to consider the scientific method of research as it is a more
reliable and efficient source of knowledge.

Moreover, the scientific method of research involves an intricate process. Among

the process often identified as characteristics of science are systematic observation and
experimentation, inductive and deductive reasoning, and the formation and testing of
hypotheses and theories. Also, the scientific method is a systematic process of entailing
several sequential steps such as recognition and definition of the problem, formulation
of hypotheses, collection of data, analysis of data, and statement of conclusions
regarding confirmation or disconfirmation of the hypotheses. Given these processes, it
is somehow complicated to follow all of these. One might consider what the authority
says rather than do independent scientific research about it. However, most of the
things that are unresolved before are answered and already available now because of
scientific research. Still, to someone who wanted an extensive knowledge of how things,
it is suggested to apply the scientific method of research in gathering concrete evidence
and seeing its correlation. It will be a great help to validate what the authority says using
a scientific method.

Furthermore, the scientific method of research has contributed a lot to the

development of different areas like in the field of sciences—including chemistry,
physics, geology, and psychology. Besides science, the scientific method, directly and
indirectly, benefit the different industries in the economy like the business industry. As
the scientific method develops, it has touched the aspect of business research.
Business research is a management activity that assists companies in determining
which products will be most profitable for companies to produce. It gives detailed
information on all areas in business, such as maximizing output with minimum input and
maximizing sales of the business. 

To sum it up, the scientific method of research is more reliable and efficient than
other sources of knowledge, it involves an intricate process of research, and it
contributes to the development of different areas like in business. It is vital to know this
method as this will be a tool that will contribute to more advancements in the future.
Also, we can have a deep understanding of how things work and its cause and effect.
Even if its processes are a bit complex, bear in mind that when it is used together as
integral components of the scientific method, it will be much helpful in solving many
problems.
