Curriculum Manager◄

Role Description: The Curriculum Manager, as a key member of the Trainiculum


Department, oversees the ongoing development of the Spirit of
Math curriculum for Spirit of Math Schools. This includes after-
school school curriculum as well as curriculum that may be
implemented in day schools through published SMS materials.

Personal Qualities: The Curriculum Manager has a passion for learning, teaching and
helping other develop. They have an interest in the unique SMS
curriculum and how it can be improved. The Curriculum Manager is
a life-long learner who wants to do extra professional development
whenever possible.

This person possesses strong interpersonal skills, an ability to


follow through and a keen attention to detail. They are highly
professional in all aspects of their behaviour as they act as a role
model for others in the organization. This person values working as
a member of a team and understands the role that Curriculum plays
throughout various departments in the Spirit of Math organization.

This person should have be able to balance multiple,


interdependent priorities. This person should be very confident,
perceptive and flexible.

Decision-Making This role should be capable of achieving objectives that could take

Skilled Knowledge & This individual has extensive experience as an SMS teacher. They
Experience: have acquired a solid understanding of the unique aspects of the
SMS approach to learning. They need to be well-acquainted with
all of the Spirit of Math systems (educational and business).

This role requires someone who is aware of trends of thought in the


larger education community in general and gifted research in
particular. This person has also developed a thorough
understanding of the business operations at SMS and how the
various functions work together.

This role requires exceptional interpersonal and relationship


management skills.
This role requires comfort and confidence with technology.
Specifically, this individual has experience using Microsoft Office
Suite and should be familiar with or willing to learn the Adobe
Creative Suite (particularly Adobe InDesign). This individual is
comfortable with using Microsoft SharePoint and should be willing
to learn and expand on their knowledge of SharePoint and other
online systems.

Education: The minimum level of education that is required is a B.A. (or


equivalent) and a B.Ed. (or equivalent).

Accountabilities: This role reports to the Head of the Trainiculum Department and is
accountable for:

a) Coordinating information between the Curriculum and


Support departments
b) Providing academic support to other departments as
required
c) Coordinating with the Marketing department to provide
material for marketing campaigns, as necessary
d) Supporting the Fulfillment Department with curriculum-
related orders (both internally and externally)

Authorities The Curriculum Manager has the following authorities:

a) Auditing campus owners to ensure they are compliant with


all SMS academic and business operations requirements
b) Hiring, managing, appraising, coaching and deselecting
curriculum specialists
c) Monitoring the efficacy of the curriculum and making
suggestions for change to the Head of the Trainiculum
Department
d) Monitoring all projects within the Curriculum department

Responsibilities: The Curriculum Manager is responsible for:

a) Initiating and supervising curriculum projects


b) Contributing to Training and Curriculum Department
projects
c) Contributing to the development of materials to be used
outside of Spirit of Math
d) Updating the curriculum, including the annual Spirit of Math
contest and the annual Spirit of Math final examinations,
from initial drafting to creating final print-ready materials
e) Doing quantitative analysis of results from the annual Spirit
of Math contest and the annual Spirit of Math final
examinations
f) Researching and working collaboratively to identify
potential improvements to the SMS curriculum
g) Testing potential improvements to the SMS curriculum
through controlled experiments
h) Conducting campus evaluations (as part of a team of
evaluators)
i) Managing online systems used by principals, teachers,
students, and parents for grading and support
j) Disseminating information to Support departments as
needed
