Observing weather forecasts (PAGASA}

1.Read a weather forecast of PAGASA or you may download a pdf copy of the weather forecast for
the day.
 What are the parameters reported? What do you think is the significance of these parameters
in our daily lives?

The parameters reported in the said copy of weather forecast of PAGASA are weather
condition (caused by, and its impacts), wind speed and its direction, coastal waters (wave
height), temperature, relative humidity, tides and astronomical information. These parameters
used in their daily forecast mostly in metro manila, the capital city of the Philippines. PAGASA
give updates every one hour to ensure that Filipino are always aware to the weather condition
in our country. Forecast based on the temperature and precipitation are valuable for agriculture
and therefore for traders in commodity markets. There are situations also that farmers used
weather forecast in order to know what are the specific date that they need to plant or harvest.
The said parameters have a big role in our society. It is important because it is easily to know
the weather condition in our specific area so that we know what to do. One of example of it is
that if it’s going to rain, we can prepare ourselves by taking umbrellas and raincoat when we
go in our respective destination. It is important not only as an environmental baseline, but to
maintain quality working conditions, marine studies and recreational safety.

 In your opinion, what is the most important parameter that should always be included in the
forecast? Explain why.
In my own opinion, relative humidity is the most important of all parameters that should
always include in weather forecast. Relative humidity is the ratio of absolute humidity to the
maximum potential. The reading of 100 percent relative humidity indicates that the air is
completely saturated with water vapor and can no longer hold, thereby creating the potential of
rain. Relative humidity shows the chance of rainfall in a specific area. If the chance of
percentage of rainfall is on the maximum level human can predict that they need to ensure
their life and safety especially those people on high risk areas such as mountains that possibly
can cause landslide and in coastal areas that can cause flashfloods. In the same way relative
humidity creates an impact in agriculture. Agriculturist need this kind of parameter by
controlling climate by high and innovative technologies and effective ways to do. Why? For
example, if the condition is too humid, it can encourage the growth of molds and bacteria that
cause plants to die and crops to fail, as well as conditions such as root rot or crown rot. Humid
environments often call for the presence of pests, such as fungus gnats, whose larvae feed on
plant roots and grow in moist soil. With this, agriculturist can create an idea to fight the
negative effect of humidity to the life of plants and crops.
  How do you compare the forecasts and actual situation observed the following day?
The weather forecast issued by PAGASA is accurate to an actual situation. The weather
condition of September 13, 2020 is rainy and thunderstorm are expected particularly in Eastern
and Central Visayas, Mindanao and some areas in Southern Luzon. In the municipality where I
stayed today, I observed a cloudy morning and around 3pm the rain poured out and experienced
thunderstorm in a couple of minutes.

 Which of thew radio program you followed? At what time?
Nathaniel Cruz more widely known to millions of Filipinos as “Mang Tani” a resident
meteorologist on the GMA Network. Cruz has been the face of weather reporting in recent
years, serving as the official spokesperson for the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and
Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the government’s official weather office. I
watch his weather forecast around 6 o’clock in the morning 6:30pm – 7:30 pm o’clock in
evening, using my gadget by online live streaming, GMA news youtube account.

 How do you assess the accuracy/precision of the forecasts? Compare what was the
forecasted and what happened in your locality.

Weather forecast reported by Mang Tani is 85 percent accurate and precise. The things that
