Getaway

By Amit Pangali, Caspar Hayes, Finlay Bell, Hannah Wayne

Ext. Footpath - Day

We open on two criminals, one is pacing as he holsters his

friend, he’s limping, injured, signs of a previous shootout
leaving him like this. They’re in a panicked hurry.

Criminal #1
Jesus, man that was fucked!

Criminal #2
Shut up we get to the car first, get me patched up!

Criminal #1
You see what happened to Andy?

Criminal #2
Who cares man, he fell behind!

Gunshots go off in the distance, the two criminals look back,

fear has coursed through them. CRIMINAL #2 starts to shuffle
quicker, he trips and CRIMINAL #1 picks him up.

Criminal #1
And how far did you think you could go there?

Criminal #2
Far enough from this mess.

We see them continue to pace.

Criminal #2
So what's your plan out of this, seeing as your last one went
so well?

Criminal #1
Lemme think...

Criminal #2
Oh yeah by all means I will let you thi-

Criminal #1
Alright, quiet! Okay the getaway vehicle is around the corner
here, we can make a getaway to a petrol station far from here,
change and get the hell away from here.
Criminal#2
Then what?

Criminal #1
I have fake passports. We can take a train or a plane out of
here. We could go to a third world country. The exchange rates
will probably double our loot. If we are lucky we can create
our own empire. That would be nice. But I haven’t planned that
far ahead. But we don’t separate. I can’t afford to let you
get caught.

Criminal #2
Alright cheers, now let's go! lead the way

They turn the corner to see that their car is not there.

Criminal #2
Where is the car?!

Criminal #1
I don’t know, what time is it

Criminal #2
12:45

Criminal #1
I don’t know, Maybe there i-

A gun cock sound is heard in the background. Criminal #1 and

#2 look up in panic

Criminal #2
Fucki-!

Gunshots erupt from behind as Criminal #1 is shot in the

stomach and criminal #2 is shot in the head. We see a thug
holding a shotgun still trained on Criminal #1’s crippled
body. Criminal #1 makes a last minute crawl away still
writhing in agony.

Boss
I would advise against moving in your current state. You will
lose too much blood.

We see the bosses shoes walk towards Criminal #1. The song
“son of a preacher man” plays from his phone. In the
background the thug drags criminal #2 away

Boss (turns off the music)

Boss
I like that song. So what went wrong there buddy. You must
have planned this for weeks, hell months maybe and yet you're
here lying on the floor bleeding out. And I am laughing.

Boss maintains his deadpan voice. We follow a lighter move up

to the face, he lights a cigarette and the light illuminates
his face. He offers the cigarette to criminal #1. Criminal #1
doesn’t accept. Boss shrugs and extinguishes the cigarette.
Criminal #1 takes off his backpack and pushes it to him.

Criminal #1
Look here you go here is what I stole you can check all of our
bodies if you think we stashed some on us. Just let me go.

Boss
In 2009 I began smuggling. In 2014 I created an empire and in
2017 I bought an entire police department and then you
exploited a weakness and made a fool out of me. Why would I
let you go?

As the boss makes this monologue Criminal #1 is crawling on

the floor, in pain, blood leaking out as he grunts and whines
in pain.

Criminal #1 starts panicking and pulls out his gun at the

boss. The boss then picks it up and puts it in his pocket.

Boss
I had hope for you. You would have been useful. You had my
respect. You HAD my respect. But, that doesn’t save a man.

Boss and criminal #1 stare at each other. Without breaking eye

contact, the sound of Criminal #1’s panting is the only noise
present, the boss is silent, the wind blows throughout this
stare-off. The boss pulls out the gun he confiscated and
shecks the magazine. He reloads the gun and points it at him

Boss
Any last words?

Criminal #1
I have spen-

The boss immediately shoots the Criminal #1 the gunshot echos
