Peroxides Rule C-218

218.1 - Compounds RO-OH are named (a) by placing the name of the radical R before
the word "hydroperoxide" or (b) by use of the prefix "hydroperoxy-".

218.2 - Compounds are named (a) by placing the names of the radicals and
, in alphabetical order, before the word "peroxide", when the group -O-O- links two
chains, or two rings, or a ring and a chain, (b) by use of the affix "dioxy-" to denote the
bivalent group -O-O- for naming assemblies of identical units or to form part of a prefix,
or (c) by use of the prefix "epidioxy-" when the -O-O- group forms a bridge between two
carbon atoms of a ring or a ring system.
