The reasoning behind my classroom design was basically
basing it off some of the teachers I once observed in their
classrooms, and I took some the parts that I really liked and
incorporated them into my classroom. I would preferably have at
least 30 kids in my classroom.
#1 Student Desks
I chose to have desks instead of tables for my
classroom because I personally experienced both in my education
career, and I always hated tables because you either sit next to
someone who doesn’t know how to divide the table by who shares
what side, or the one who sprawls all the contents of their backpack
onto the whole table, including your side. I also designed my
classroom to be facing the whiteboard, because lessons can be
easier to teach, as well as having rows make it easier to navigate in
between the classroom space.
#2-3 Whiteboard and Bulletin Board
When I observed in my EDU 201 class, I observed a
teacher that had her whiteboard specifically installed in front of the
room, because of the “flow of energy”, didn’t follow her guidelines,
and replaced the empty slot with a bulletin board full of her
students work proudly displayed. I believe that you should
incorporate your students work into your classroom to motivate
your students and make them feel proud that they accomplished
something. I also want to add that I would write
#4 Homework Station
I wanted to incorporate a system where the
students are more responsible for their own work to turn in, instead
of always asking where to turn in work. I really liked how my
teacher put three wired bins that each had a specific role to do with
homework.
#5 – 6 Teachers Desk/ Door placement
For the door, I specifically would prefer to have a
teacher’s desk right next to it, so that way, if any guests come in,
they would cause a big distraction, as well as if an emergency would
happen, I would be the first one to respond.
#7 Podium
In my freshman year of high school, my teacher had a
podium that she liked to speak to her students to. I disagreed with
her decision, but I also had a teacher my Senior year, that had a
podium that he talked to his students to, but also made students
present essays in front of the class with it. I enjoyed how he spoke
to us, because he had an outspoken voice, and projected his voice
very well. Plus, the podium added an extra professional touch to
presenting and speaking in front of an audience.
#8 Overhead projector
In having an Elmo based in class, I can further display
essays, or assignments on the white board, with the help of the
overhead projector. I would prefer the ones on the ceiling because
those don’t need to be adjusted every time or blow hot air into
someone’s face. unlike the on-table models.
#9 Computer Lab
Since I do want to be an English teacher, there will be times
that I will ask students to look up important pieces of literature, or
type out essays, I would like to have a mini table set up with 4
computers that a small group can share and research articles for

English, instead of going through the trouble of making an 4
6 appointment for the computer lab on campus.
