Open Systems Under Steady Flow Process Exercises Problem

Name: Cañada, Carl Jasper M.

Student No.: 20141102729

Problem:

A fluid enters a machine at 170 m/s, 800 kPa and with a specific volume of 0.3 𝑚3 /𝑘𝑔.
The radiation heat loss is 25 kJ/kg. The internal energy decreases 485 kJ/kg. If the fluid
leaves at 330 m/s, 138 kPa and 0.95 𝑚3 /𝑘𝑔, determine the work done by the fluid in
kJ/kg.

SOL’N:
𝑄 + 𝐾1 + 𝑃𝑎 + 𝑉1 + 𝐸1 = 𝐾2 + 𝑃2 + 𝑊 + 𝑉2 + 𝐸2
𝑉1 = (𝐾1 − 𝐾2) −△ v + (P1 − P2) + E1 − E2+Q
1 (𝑉12 − 𝑉22 ) 𝑘𝐽
𝑊= − − (−485 ) + 𝑃1𝑉1𝑃2𝑉2) − 𝑄
2 1000 𝑘𝑔

𝑉1 − 𝑉2
𝑉= + 485 + [(800)(0.3) − (330)(0.95)] − 25

𝑉 = 528.9
