Sara Duterte: “HONESTY SHOULD NOT BE AN ISSUE IN THIS ELECTION”

Sara Duterte states that honesty is not an issue in this election because all government
officials are dishonest. By saying this, she has just generalized and claimed that every official,
including his father is a liar and has a record of lying to the public by defending plunderers and
thieves who are now back in their positions. For me, honesty is a basic human value for every
individual, you may be rich or poor, government official or not, you must remain honest in all
forms. However, Sara Duterte disregards this principle because she is on the side of the parties
who are indeed dishonest in their actions such as Imee Marcos who claimed to have a degree and
Bong Go’s spending of taxpayers’ money.

In fact, Philippine election seems to be low-rated because anyone can run regardless of its
educational attainment, status, and job. Thus, the only thing that they can prove to the public is
their integrity as a person and it is through their words and deeds. Disregarding honesty as a
value is a sign of believing that everyone is lying so they will also run a government based on
lies and deception. This statement tells the public what Duterte government is really all about,
lying, disrespecting, and persecuting. By continuing this belief, time will come that there will be
no transparency and accountability of telling the truth because officials themselves lie anyway.
Indeed, honesty should not be an issue in this election only because it must be an issue in all
forms of action, always.
