Hello Holliday ISD Families,

As many of you are aware, we have been diligently working through a situation which arose last
Thursday regarding two positive COVID cases at our high school.

At approximately 12:30 pm Thursday afternoon, we were informed of a second positive case

involving high school students. At that time, we had several other HS students who had been sent
home with similar symptoms. We quickly reached out to two state health officials asking for
guidance.

In an effort to protect the safety of our students and faculty, and working with the information we
had at the time, we followed the recommendations of state health authorities and sent home a
large number of students out of an abundance of caution.

Since Thursday afternoon, we have continued to work through the process by consulting with
additional health officials and other schools who have been in similar situations.

We further discussed our protocols at the Board meeting last night to work towards a solution
which we believe will protect our students, staff and community and be consistent with how
others in the area are dealing with similar situations.

Based on these conversations, we feel confident that we can use the protocols we have
established to work through situations such as this in the future. We will be following the
guidelines set forth by the TEA and the UIL to determine which students need to remain at home
based on the definition of “close contact” and which students will be allowed to come back to
school because they are not considered “close contact” to a positive case. This is consistent with
the procedures that were established at the beginning of the year and we will be using the same
protocol moving forward.

We are currently finalizing our tracing and we will be calling those students who will need to
stay home. If you do not receive a call today, your student may return to school on Wednesday,
October 14th. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we work through these
issues.
