Joining and aligning the printing units 460.00.70.40.0

INSTALLING A PRESS WITH GUIDE

INSTALLING A PRESS WITHOUT GUIDE

Position of the graduated disc ot the 1st printing unit when assem-
bling a multicolour press:
for the 2nd printing unit 315.11"
3rd printing unit 180.54"
4th printing unit 45.98O
5th printing unit 271.41°
6th printing unit 136.84"
Before assembling the printing units check the gauges between the side
frames of the printing units at the measurement points 6 and 8. Adjust
if necessary. Align the 1st printing unit on both 'sides using a water
level. After assembling printing units 1 and 2 fit a 2 meter long
straight edge to the base plate on the drive side. Then align the
printing units with 0.03 mm thick feeler gauges at the measurement
points 1 and 4.
On the operating side the printing units are aligned simultaneously
with the drive side using a water level and measuring dial. When
assembling the printing units the gear play of 0.07 to 0.14 mm ’
between the 1st and 2nd transfer cylinders must be checked.

Installing the feeder 460.00.70.4

The distance from the feeder to the 1st printing unit is

according to the length of the feed front table which is
I screwed together with the lay traverse. That they are
parallel is ensured by a gauge between the upper feed roll
shaft and the tape rollers on the feeder ( permissible
tolerance 0.01 mm ).

The horizontal position of the feeder is aligned by using

a spirit level.

After correct fitting, the feeder side panels are screwed

to the base frame of the printing unit using distance poles,
marked S.1 an,d S.11.

After the toothed driving belt has been attached, the feeder
should be timed to the press so that the sheets touch the
front lays at 185".

When installing the feeder take care to ensure the supporting

frame is aligned at an angle of 90' to the feeder table.
Lay the sheet exactly on the front lays and turn the press for-
ward until the sheet has been transferred from the 3rd transfer
cylinder on the printing unit in question to the following
impression cylinder.

The front edge of the sheet must correspond exactly to the front
edge of the gripper bite on the previous impression cylinder.
Any necessary corrections are done by turning the outer drive
wheel on the previous 3rd transfer cylinder.

For connecting printing units without turning arrangement and

with direct further drive, the correct position of the gripper
bite must be ensured with the gauge setting of the drive wheels
given above (.see page 460.00.70.03 and 460.00.70.04 1.

When the gripper bite in the following printing units is correct,

the back drive gear on the 3rd transfer cylinder is bored
accurately to the correct gauge,( after the front gear ) and is
reamered out and pinned.

Setting the leading edge on blanket cylinder 460.00.70.45.0
and plate cylinder

Bring the blanket together with packings ( 0.1 mm above the

height of the cylinder bearers ) and the plate ( level with
teh cylinder bearers 1.

Ink up the front edge of the blanket with engineer's blue.

Start print and allow a few sheets to run through.

Measure out the distance from paper edge to the line where
impression starts on these sheets. The leading edge should
be 9.5 mm. Correct by loosening the fixing screw on the
blanket cylinder drive wheel ( gear rim to wheel hub 1.

After correct adjustment, fasten the gear rim on blanket

cylinder with hub. The leading edge measurement of 9.5 mm
must be the same on all printing units.

The setting of leading edge on the plate cylinder is to be

carried out so that by turning the plate cylinder ( drive
wheel loosened ), the marking slit on the plate cylinder
( leading edge ) is in alignment with the line where
impression starts on the blanket cylinder, recognizable
from the engineer's blue.

In this position the dial on the plate cylinder wheel is set

to Zero and fastened.

The circumferential register d ial should also be set to Zero.

Bhnket cylinder

Set gap of plate cylinder vertical.

Loosen gear (8) and hub of circumferential register adjustment in

such a manner, that guide boring (2) for register key (6) stands
right in the horizontal surface, pointer (7) facing to the left.

The gaps (3) of the protection disc (1) are than congruent with
the clamp screws. (4) ( outside the protection position ).

In this position of the printing unit make each one mark (5) with
red ink in one plane surface on the side frame and on the blanket
cylinder.
