Demonstration Lesson Plan

Section 1

School: Oberlin High School Subject: Technical Drawing

Teacher: Aston C. Shaw Date: September 29- October 7, 2016
Grade/Level: 10COMB4,COMB3 Duration: 2 week (2x5x40mins) 6hrs 40 mins
Topic of Lesson: Basic Geometrical Construction
Sub Topic: Constructing Angles
Teaching Strategy: Demonstration, Explanation, Questioning, Illustration, Drill and Practice,
General Objectives:
Students should:
1. Basic concepts of constructing angles geometrically using compasses and straight edges

Specific Objectives:
At the end of the lesson students should be able to:
1.1) Identify the parts of an angle
1.2) Define the term perpendicular
1.3) Consruct perpendicular at the end or at a point on a line using two methods
1.4) Construct an angle of 60o
1.5) Bisect a given angle
1.6) Define the term bisector

Rationale:
Basic construction is the foundation of technical drawing. It forms the basis for students to
complete more complex tasks. It also provides the foundation and also reinforcement for
construction done in CSEC mathematics

Instructional Materials/Teaching Aids/Equipment:

 Chalk  Laptop  textbook
 Chalk board  Projector  drawing instrument
 Docu camera
Reference Materials: Technical Drawing for GCE and CXC, Greene

Previous Knowledge:
Students will be familiar with angles and basic construction as this was taught as part of the
grade 8 curriculum. Some students also did basic construction before if they did Technical
Drawing in grade 9.

Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity
The teacher will: The student will:
 Students will answer questions
 Introduce lesson byasking students to define the term ‘angle’.
 Teacher will use chalkboard or power point slide to display the parts of an angle.  Observe video
 Ask questions

 Teacher will then ask students to define the term perpendicular.

 Students will answer questions
 Teacher will display through use or chalk board and or powerpoint slide a
 Students will observe slides
perpendicular
Teacher will demonstrate methods by which perpendicuars can be constructed  Observe illustration
 Construct perpendicular using two
separate methods
 Construct perpendicular at the end
of a line and at a given point on a
straight line

 Teacher will demonstrate how to construct geometrically an angle of 600
 Observe illustration
 Construct an angle of 600 as
illustrated

 Teacher will ask students to define the term bisector  Students will answer question
 Teacher will demonstrate how to geometrically bisect an angle  Students will use drawing paper and
equipment to bisect angles.

Application
Students will construct angles
Students will be given worksheet to construct various angles that can be constructed

geometrically.
 150, 450,750,1350,112.50,1350
Or any angle that is divisible by 7.50
Evaluation of Learners: Students will be given classwork over the period as well as a comprehensive worksheet that will cover the
module. Worksheets will be given to students to practice and reinforce concept. These concepts will also be used in the next topic
triangles as triangles can be constructed using various parameters including angles.
