Noun Phrase Mini-Lesson Script

SWBAT

 Students will be able to understand what a noun phrase is.

 Students will be able to construct sentences using noun phrases.

Procedure

 5:30-5:32 – The teacher will begin the mini-lesson by asking the students for the

definition of a noun. Once the students have given an answer to the teacher, the teacher

will ask tell the students the definition of a noun phrase. Constance Weaver describes a

noun phrase as, “A noun plus any words describing it” (98).

 5:32-5:35 – The teacher will give the students a couple examples of noun phrases.

 5:35-5:37 – The teacher will ask the students to take a couple of minutes and write a

sentence that includes a noun phrase. Once students have completed their sentences, they

are to put their sentences in the chat box, so that they can be read aloud as they come in.

 5:37-5:38 – For homework, students will be asked to look at Lou Gehrig’s farewell

speech and locate all noun phrases within the speech.

Practice

 Students will write their own sentences using noun phrases.

Assessment

 Students will be assessed by finding all the noun phrases within Lou Gehrig’s farewell
