Experiment No: 01
Experiment Name: Introduction to Basic EEE lab and construction of a simple
circuit.

Introduction: An electric circuit, is a path for transmitting electric current. An

electric circuit includes a device that gives energy to the charged particles
constituting the current, such as a battery or a generator; devices that use current,
such as lamps, electric motors, or computers; and the connecting wires or
transmission lines. Electric circuits are classified in several ways. A direct current
circuit carries current that flows only in one direction. An alternating-current
circuit carries current that pulsates back and forth many times each second, as in
most household circuits. In this lab, we are going to make a simple DC circuit.
Ammeter: This is the device used to measure the current through any resistor or
components of the circuit. The ammeter is connected in series with the resistor
through which current is to be measured. If the ammeter is analog then we have to
find the value of one small division in the measuring scale by dividing the
maximum range of the ammeter with the number of total small divisions in the
scale. Then determine the value of the current, we first have to find out how much
small division the indicator has passed, and multiply this value with the value of
one small division determined earlier. If the indicator reaches the rightmost region
of the scale, this would indicate that the current value is out of range of this
ammeter. In this case, we have to change the ammeter to measure value.
Voltmeter: This is the device used to measure the voltage across any resistor or
components of the circuit. The voltmeter is connected in parallel with the resistor
across which voltage is to be measured. The analog voltmeter reading is also taken
in the same process described above in the ammeter section.

DC Power Supply: This device is used to provide DC voltage to an electrical

circuit. By using this we can provide any value between 0-35 as volt.

Connecting Wires: This is a simple copper wire to connect various electrical

components. It is coated with plastic. Its resistance is negligible.
Apparatus used in virtual lab:

04 Ammeter 01
05 Connecting Wires Required

Experimental Data:
Subject Resistor Voltage Current
Value 256 Ω 56 V 218.75 mA
Discussion: Through this experiment, I have created a simple DC circuit using
some very basic components (Battery, Resistor, Voltmeter, Ammeter, Connecting
Wire). For the first time I did this lab on a simulation website called Falstad, this
was a new experience for me. AS the experience was done in a simulator the
values were more accurate than normal method. Also the current determining was
a auto operation by the simulator that helps us cutting off our calculating process
time. That was a new and good experience for me.
Learning media is changing day by day, it is becoming more advance. So, I need to
cope up with those media's and this will help surely be helpful in the future.
Conclusion: By doing this lab, 1st I have learned about the simulation and how it
works. Then the tools that we can use through it to do various type of experiment
throughout this course. It’ll help me doing the upcoming lab works.
