P : Good morning miss, my name is……...

I am the nurse on duty this morning

K: okey nurse

P: may I know your name miss?

K : my name is……….

P: okey miss……so tomorrow you are scheduled for appendectomy at 09.00 a.m. how do you
feel now?

K: hmmm I feel anxious nurse. This is my first surgery and I am very afraid what will happen to
me…

P : okay miss, now may I ask you to go into more detail about your current state, your thoughts,
or everything about something. You can tell me so I can understand your situation and maybe be
able to help you

K : I have a bad feeling, nurse. Last night I had a nightmare that kept me awake in the middle of
the night and now I feel like there are butterflies in my stomach and my heart beating fast. I can't
control my thoughts about negative things. I am very worried whether tomorrow's operation will
go smoothly or not.

P: I know your fellings miss,. but I believe After surgery you will be well again. The doctor and
nurse here are professional and definitely do their best for you to get well as soon as possible.
May I help you to reduce your anxiety?

K : of course nurse. You can help me. Tell me how to reduce my anxiety..

P: so we're going to do a guided imaging technique. Guided Imagery is a comfortable and


simple relaxation technique that can help you quickly and easily manage stress and reduce
tension in your body.so the procedure I make sure your position is comfortable. then i will play
the song you like and make you relax. After that, you have to do my instructions like close your
eyes, take a deep breath and exhale slowly. And then I'm going to ask you to imagine something
nice and relaxing. this time I will ask you to imagine that you are in a waterfall where the place
is very cool, comfortable and has a soothing sound of water. the procedure will last for 5
minutes. Do you understand?

K: oh i understand nurse

P: .what song do you like?


K : I like songs that have a calming rhythm.

P : okey, is your position comfortable now?

K : I lie down comfortably, nurse

P : fine then, we can start now. I open the window so you feel cool

K : okey nurse

 take a few slow deep breaths and slow down..

 as you free your mind from all unnecessary thoughts

 you feel your mind being transported……. to a serene and tranquil environment

 you're standing near a waterfall it's cascading down the mountainside

 the air is warm and fragrant…. with an aroma of sweet tropical flowers

 there's the sound of exotic birds…

 I love green surrounds you…….. as you enjoy the warmth of the Sun…

 The sound of the waterfall ….

 now stepping…..underneath the waterfall… …

 you feel the water flowing from the top of your head………and down your neck……. across
your shoulders………down your arms… and hands… and then into the earth…..

 you experience ….the water washing away all the tension from your body and your mind….

 feeling fresh and invigorated………….

 you step out of the waterfall

 and in your own time…… make your way back to the room….
P : oke finished. You can open your eyes.. How are feeling now ?

K: I feel better now. I feel like my mind is calm, and my heart is beating normally. I feel more
relaxed

P : I am very glad to hear that. If you are feeling anxious again you can do this technique
individually or you can ask me for help.

K: okay nurse, thank you so much nurse for the help

P: you are welcome miss, I;m very happy that you more relax now. I’ll leave now, if your need
