Separating Iron Fillings

Magnetic Separation

Magnetic separation is a specialized method specifically used for separating magnetic materials,
such as iron, from non-magnetic materials, such as soil and plastic. The magnetic separation is a
process in which magnetically susceptible material is extracted from a mixture using magnetic force.
This is best way to separate the mixture of sand and iron fillings as iron is attracted by magnet. It is
commonly used in the mining and recycling industries.

Separation of Mixture of Salt

Evaporation

Evaporation is used to recover dissolved solids from solutions. The solution is either heated or
simply left untreated, resulting in the evaporation of the water and the crystallization of the
solution. For example, sea salt is recovered by the evaporation of seawater.
