Abstract: Abbreviations and acronyms are commonly used in the medical world to save time
and space whilst writing in the patients' medical records. As various specialties have evolved,
each has developed a collection of commonly used abbreviations within its practice, which may
not be recognizable to those not working within the same field. Abbreviations, acronyms, and
medical terminology are used for many conditions, and for instructions on medication prescribed
by your doctor. However, the use of abbreviations has been linked to patient safety issues.
District hospitals operate with a heterogeneous community of healthcare workers presumably
with diverse set of abbreviations in use. The use of abbreviations in these settings assumes that
all have common understanding regarding the abbreviations used in patient records.

Introduction:
Abbreviation or (acronym) is shortened form of a word or phrase used chiefly in writing to
represent the complete form. The healthcare field is full of technical terminology, including a
number of medical abbreviations that are used to complete patient charts, write prescriptions,
communicate general needs.

Doctors and other health care professionals commonly use a list of abbreviations, acronyms, and
other medical terminology as a reference to rapidly search and accurately record information
about, and give instructions to their patients. Health care professionals often quickly scribble
notes with important medical information that they would like a patient to reference in regard to
the type of current, or recently diagnosed disease, syndrome, or other health condition.

we should use abbreviations for some of the most common medical phrases to make
communication quicker and, often times, easier. Abbreviations are case sensitive, so it is
important to note which letters are capital and which ones are lowercase. There are times when
the same letters are used, but the meaning is different depending on the case of the different
letters.
