United paid £12 million to sign him in 2003 - a record fee for a player of his age. In the 2004 FA Cup
Final, he scored Manchester's first three goals and helped them capture the championship. In 2008,
he set a franchise record for goals scored. In 2009, Real Madrid paid a record $131 million for his
service.

It was through his dad's work as an equipment manager at a boy's club that Ronaldo was first

football," his godfather, Fernao Sousa, recalled for British reporters, adding, "He loved the game so
much that he'd miss meals or escape out his bedroom window with a ball when he was supposed to
be doing his homework."

By his early teens, Ronaldo's talent and legend had grown considerably. After a stint with Nacional
da liha da Madeira, he signed with Sporting Portugal in 2001. That same year, at the tender age of
16, Ronaldo turned heads with a impressing performance against Manchester United, wowing even
his opponents with his footwork and deft skill. He made such an impression that a number of United

Learning English

Learning English through music and songs can be very enjoyable. You can mix pleasure with
learning when you listen to a song and exploit the song as a means to your English progress.
Some underlying reason can be drawn to support the idea why we use songs in language
learning.

Firstly, “the song stuck in my head” Phenomenon (the echoing in our minds of the last song
we heard after leaving a restaurant, shopping malls, etc) can be both enjoyable and sometimes
unnerving. This phenomenon also seems to reinforce the idea that songs work on our short-
and-long term memory.

Secondly, songs in general also use simple conversational language, with a lot of repetition,
which is just what many learners look for sample text. The fact that they are effective makes
them many times more motivating than other text. Although usually simple, some songs can
be quite complex syntactically, lexically and poetically, and can be analyzed in the same way
as any other literary sample.

Furthermore, song can be appropriated by listener for their own purpose. Most pop songs and
probably many other types don’t have precise people, place or time reference.

In addition, songs are relaxing. They provide variety and fun, and encourage harmony within
oneself and within one group. Little wonder they are important tools in sustaining culture,
religion, patriotism and yeas, even revolution.

Last but not least, there are many learning activities we can do with songs such as studying
grammar, practicing selective listening comprehension, translating songs, learning
vocabulary, spelling and culture.

From the elaboration above, it can be concluded that learning through music and songs,
learning English can be enjoyable and fun.

Dust Bin

To improve comfort and cleanliness at our school, a number of dust bins should be
increased. When we look at classrooms, school corridors and school yard, there are paper
mineral water cups, straws, and napkins here and there.  The condition of uncleanliness and
discomfort really hinders learning and teaching environment. Litters thrown carelessly cause
disease, especially empty plastic cup or glasses.  They can be filled out with water coming
from the rain.  This can be placed for dengue mosquitoes to spread out.  Besides, these
rubbish can deteriorate the scene.  Well painted wall and green school yard do not mean
anything litters are scattered everywhere.

Anyway I notice that most of the students in our school have responsibilities for the school
environment.  They put their litters on the proper places.  But some are not diligent enough to
find the dust bins.  The numbers of dust binds in our schools are not enough.   Ore dust bins
should be put beside each of steps, outside of the classrooms, and some more also the
corridors.  Probably one dust bin should be in every ten meters.  So when students want to
throw away their litters, they can find the dust bins easily.

When school is equipped with sufficient dust bins, we do not have problems of freak and
discomfort any more.  Our school will be very clean and become a nice place to study.

a.       should be decorated
b.      should be painted
c.       should be placed

a.       They can prevent litters
b.      They can save janitor’s energy
c.       Students are asked to clean them
d.      They make school environment neat
e.       Students can throw garbage away easily

3.      What is the writer’s suggestion?

a.       To buy more dustbins
b.      To hire more gardeners
c.       To use dustbins efficiently
d.      To ask parents to give more dustbins
e.      To ask students to clean the school yard

$500.00."
This catches the blonde's attention and, figuring there will be no end to this torment unless
she plays, agrees to the game. The lawyer asks the first question. "What's the distance from
the earth to the moon?" The blonde doesn't say a word, reaches into her purse, pulls out a
$5.00 bill and hands it to the lawyer. "Okay" says the lawyer, "your turn."
She asks the lawyer, "What goes up a hill with three legs and comes down with four legs?"
The lawyer, puzzled, takes out his laptop computer and searches all his references, no answer.
He taps into the air phone with his modem and searches the net and the library of congress,
no answer. Frustrated, he sends e-mails to all his friends and coworkers, to no avail. After an
hour, he wakes the blonde, and hands her $500.00.
The blonde says, "Thank you", and turns back to get some more sleep.

Keeping dogs
There are many reasons for keeping dogs as pets in the city area, but many people feel that keeping
pet dogs should not be allowed in the city. Dogs are often not taken care properly. They are kept in
small backyards and rarely taken for walks. They are left in the yard all day by themselves while the
family is at work. Very little attention is given to the dog and it is not a very good life for it. It is no
wonder why these dogs bark and disturb the neighbours and become a nuisance to the community.

On the other hand, not all people treat their dogs this way and why should the people receive a lot
of pleasure and enjoyment from dog's suffer? Dogs can make a lonely person's life happy or make
wonderful playmate. It can also teach a child responsibility as they not only get to lay with the dog,
but also need to exercise, feed, and care for the dog.

I feel that we should be allowed to keep dogs in the city, because if it is taken care of properly, dogs
can be a great source of pleasure. As a child I used to enjoy playing and taking care of my pet. There
is not greater loyalty a person can get than from a well-cared dog.

Faster planes and cheaper flights

Faster planes and cheaper flights are making it easier than ever before for people to travel. In the
most 'developed' societies, visiting exotic places is a sought-after status symbol. The tourism
industries of both developed and developing countries have recognised this fact and are learning to
take advantage of it.

There are, however, some problems associated with this new industry. Firstly, there is the
increasing crime rate. Some local's tourists as an easy prey because, not only are they in unfamiliar
territory and therefore less able to take care of themselves, but also they carry visible items of
wealth, such as cameras and jewelery which can be disposed of quickly for profit.

Another major problem is health. With greater mobility comes greater danger of spreading
contagious diseases around the world. One carrier returning home could easily start an epidemic
before their illness was diagnosed. Moreover, the emergence of many diseases which resist
antibiotics is causing scientists to be increasingly concerned about this issue.

Also to be considered is the natural environment, which can be seriously threatened by too many
visitors. Australia's Great Barrier Reef, for example, is in danger of being destroyed by tourists and
there are plans to restrict visitors to some of the more delicate coral cays.

These are just three of the reasons why any country should be wary of committing itself to an
extensive tourism development program.

The sense of the taste

The sense of taste is one of a person's five senses. We taste with the help of taste-buds in
the tongue.

There are four main kinds of taste: sweet, sour, salty, and bitter. All other tastes are just
mixtures of two or more of these main types.

The surface of the tongue has more than fifteen thousand taste-buds (or cells). These are
connected to the brain by special nerves which send the so-called 'tastes messages.

When the tongue comes into contact with food of any kind, the taste-buds will pick up the
taste. The nerves then send a message to the brain. This will make us aware of the taste.
All this happens in just a few seconds.

There are four kinds of taste-buds, each of which is sensitive to only a particular taste.
These four groups are located in different parts of the tongue.

The taste-buds for salty and sweet tastes are found round the tip of the tongue and along
its sides. Sour tastes can be picked up only at the sides of the tongue. The taste-buds of
the bitter taste are found at the innermost edge of the tongue. There are taste-buds at the
centre of the tongue.

The senses of smell and sight can affect taste. The good smell of food increases its taste.
Similarly, attractive colours can make food appear tastier and more delicious. If food does
not smell good or is dull-coloured, it will look tasty and may not taste good at all.

Very hot or cold sensations can make the taste-buds insensitive. Food that is too hot or
too cold, when placed in the mouth, will have no tastes at all.

Natural disaster
A natural disaster is a terrible accident, a great flood, a big fire or an earthquake. It usually
causes great suffering and loss of a large sum of money. The casualties are injured or died.
Some people are homeless and need medical care.

Floods occur when the water of rivers, lakes, or streams overflow their banks and pour onto
the surrounding land. Floods are caused by many different things. Often heavy rainstorms
that last for a brief can cause a flood. But not all heavy storms are followed by flooding. If
the surrounding land is flat and can absorb the water, no flooding will occur. If, however, the
land is hard and rocky, heavy rain cannot be absorbed. Where the banks are low, a river may
overflow and flood adjacent lowland.

In many part of the world flood are caused by tropical storms called hurricanes or typhoons.
They bring destructive winds of high speed, torrents of rain, and flooding. When a flood
occurs, the destruction to surrounding land can be severe. Whole villages and towns are
sometimes swept away by water pouring swiftly over the land. Railroad track blocked and
uprooted from their beds. Highways are washed away.

When a building caught fire, the firemen pitched in to help battle the blaze. Before the pumps
were invented, people formed bucket brigades to fight fires. Standing side by side, they
formed a human chain from the fire to nearby well or river. They passed buckets of water
from to hand to be poured on the flames.

The damage of the fire did depend a great deal on where it happened. In the country or a
small village, only a single house might burn down. But in crowded cities, fire often
destroyed whole blocks and neighborhoods before being controlled.

Family Planning

Most people agree that the family planning programme is desirable for the good of family
and society. But individuals and religious groups differ sharply on the methods of birth
control that they consider moral and acceptable.

Couples that practice birth control do so for various reasons. They may want to limit or
space their children, or to have no children at all. Young couples often postpone having
children so that both partners can work full-time. Other couples space their children so they
can give each as much attention as possible. Some women are advised by their doctor to
avoid pregnancy for health reasons. In many countries with rapidly growing populations, the
government encourages couples to limit the number of their families.

Even thought birth control has gained in acceptance, opposition to the practice is
continuous. Some people fear that birth control encourages sexual outside marriage or that
government might impose birth control. Some religious groups oppose birth control on
moral grounds.

Some religious groups teach that artificial methods of birth control are immoral because
they separate the purposes of intercourse in marriage-conjugal love and the procreation of
children. Although they oppose all artificial birth control, they consider natural family
planning to be acceptable.

Nature VS Nurture
People wondered for a long time how their personalities and behaviors are formed. Two distinct
schools of thought on the matter have develop. The two approaches are very different from each
other. The controversy is often referred to as nature and nurture.

Those who support the nature side of the conflict believe that our personalities and behavior
patterns are largely determined by biological and genetic factors. That our environment has little to
do with our abilities, characteristics, and behavior is central to this theory.

Proponents of the nurture theory claim that our environment is more important than our
biologically based instinct in determining how we will act. They see humans as beings whose
behavior is almost completely shaped by their surroundings.

Neither of these theories can yet fully explain human behavior . In fact, it is quite likely that the key
to our behavior lies somewhere between these two extremes. That the controversy will continue for
a long time is certain.

Frankenstein
It was the dawn of science and technology. Anything seemed possible –even the creation of life
itself. Victor Frankenstein becomes obsessed with this idea and works relentlessly to prove his
theories; but the glory he imagined becomes a living nightmare –not only for him, but for his friends
and family too.

Mary Shelley’s gothic horror story- Frankenstein-was first published in 1818 and has been the
inspiration behind numerous stage productions and films – many of which strayed a long way away
from her original masterpiece. Classical Comics presenting a full-colour graphic novel remains true to
this classic tale, bringing the original story to life which has never been created before.

This graphic novel is available in two versions: Original Text and Quick Text editions.  The Original
Text stays faithful to Shelley’s original text, while the Quick Text brings the story up to date by
presenting the text into a more simplified style so that the tale is accessible to all readers.

The Quick Text edition will allow you to soak up a general feeling for the characters and locations,
while the Original Text version will help you easily slip into the language in which the novel was
written.

Even if you’re not studying the original, this graphic novel is worth buying. It’s a great story, and
should be one that everyone has the chance to read. Now, thanks to this release, even those who
don’t particularly like to read too much are given the chance to find this tale and hopefully it may
encourage them to search out the original book too.

As with previous Classical Comics, the presentation is first class. The best grade glossy paper really
helps to set this graphic novel head and shoulders above the usual comic book releases on the
market. Not only that, you also get a pretty comprehensive biography of Shelley; Mary Shelley’s
