Poverty statistics
In the Philippines, 21.6 % of the population lives below the national poverty line
in 2015. But you might be wondering despite having a bunch of talented Filipinos, it
seems like many of our countrymen are still suffering from poverty. It is sad to hear that
we have skills and capabilities that can compete globally, and there’s no doubt about it,
but only few are making it to the top. It is because of the major causes of poverty in the
Philippines which is first one Corruption, one of the big factors that contributes to
poverty, a problem that doesn't seem to end and because of these corruptions, funds
are getting short for health, education, agriculture, and other important matter. Second,
Lack of Education, third Fear and last Lack of Discipline. Obviously, these major causes
does not promote ethical universalism and we all know that without discipline you
cannot attain something significant. Through discipline, plans are executed properly,
consistent and organized to achieve whatever goals that you want in your life. But
poverty also affects the economic prosperity of community, productivity and increase
crime in unsafe neighbourhoods. This leads to lower graduation rates and a reduced
participation in the work place. A decrease in human capital puts a strain on
government resources and causes decrease output and eventually will put downfall on
our economic outcomes.
