My name is Annie and this is what I normally do. I love to walk on the mountain. During the week I wake up early and
go for a small walk on the mountain. I usually go with my father or my brother. We like to get some fresh air before we
start our day. We live in the country far away from the city. We think that our country life is wonderful because we are
away from the noise and pollution of the city. We often walk for about one-half hour and then return to our home. I
always take my bus after our walk and at about 8:30 a.m. and arrive at at school at 9:00 a.m. My father takes his car and
goes to town to work. He works at a veterinary clinic. He is a vet and loves to help animals. We have 3 dogs and two
cats. On the weekend we wake up early and go for a hike on the mountain. It is so nice to smell the fresh air and see the
wild animals. We stay there for about three hours and bring our lunch with us. As you can see my family loves nature.

A MAYAN FAMILY
Hello, my name is Jimena, I am 11 years old and I want to introduce you my family. We are Mayans from Mexico, we live
in a town called Saltillo. Our town is in the north of Mexico, near the USA. We speak Spanish and also a bit of English.
I live in an apartment in a calm area of Saltillo. I live with my mum, my auntie and my cousin. Our fathers don’t live with
us anymore, but we see them many weekends.
My mother’s name is Juana, she is 40 years old. She works in the sugar factory of Saltillo. I don’t like her job because she
has to get up very early in the morning, at 5 o’clock and we cannot have breakfast together. However, she finishes work
at half past four in the afternoon, so we spend time together after I finish school.
My auntie is called Manuela, she is my mum’s sister. Manuela is younger, she is 34 years old. My aunt works in a farm,
she likes her job because she loves animals. She takes care of the hens and chickens. She starts working at 10 o’clock, it
is good because she can be with me and my cousin before we go to school. Unfortunately, she arrives home quite late in
the evening, usually at quarter to eight.
My cousin is 8 years old and her name is Mariana. I like living with my cousin, we have fun playing together after doing
the homework in the evenings. We go to the same school, Santa Isabel Primary School; but we are in different grades. I
th rd
am in 5 grade and she is in 3 grade.
Every morning we get up at quarter past seven and have breakfast at half past seven with my auntie Manuela. She walks
us to school at quarter past eight because we start school at half past eight. In the afternoon, my mum picks us up from
school; we finish lessons at 5 o’clock. In the evening, we wait for my auntie to come from work and then we have dinner
altogether around 8.
After dinner, my cousin and I watch some TV and then we go to bed at 10 o’clock. I love sleeping!
