 We arrived at 8am. We start to fix our things. We met tatay Danny the owner of the
dormitory, he orient us about the policies. Then few hours ago Sir Jordan, ma’am bruci
and Sir Bong called us for our orientation about what we need to do in the area (psych
ward) after that we had a “siesta mode” we eat and sleep and eat and sleep. hmm

Wednesday (Oct. 20, 2010)

 First day at the psych ward we had sharing of our different problems, in family,
financial, love life, etc. some of us cry while some didn’t. We need to express our
feelings before we go at the area because some of our patients are depressed. There’s
an instance that if we talked each other we feel the same way which is not therapeutic.
 The NPI (Nursing Patient Interaction) but before we start the NPI we had a prayer,
exercise which is their daily activities then we start to talk our patient about their
problems and then we play and play.
 After the duty 3 of our group go home because of special exam.

patient. Some of patient sings, while the others dance.

1. What makes me care to my patient?

As student nurses, we are assigned to different patients. But this is not the reason
for me to care for my patient. At San Juan De Dios, we are handling psychiatric
patients. We should understand that this patient needs special care because of their
condition. We should not sympathize with them but instead do something to help
them improve their condition.

2. What is my motivation to care?

My Motivation to care for these types of patients is my understanding of their

conditions. Knowing that psychiatric patients won’t improve for a short period of
time, we should help them to recover to their pre- illness state.
