1. Purpose of the Course


To learn the basic Korean alphabet and make students enable to speak basic Korean necessary for
daily life. Students will learn salutations, self-introduction, buying things, ordering food, making
arrangements and such. Also, the students learn to read the bulletin board writings, invitations, e-
mails, and circulars and such. The Korean culture & literature is exposed based on basic Korean level.

2. Textbook
「Ewha Korean Language 1-1」, Ewha Language Center (2010), Ewha Womans University Publishing.

3. Course Period and Class Time

 Course Period: 2012.6.26(Tuesday) ~ 7.25(Wednesday), 4 weeks


 Class Time: Monday ~ Thursday, First period(14:00-15:15), Second period(15:30-16:45)

4. Grading policy

(1) Test (Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing) 40%

(2) Quiz 20%

(3) Homework 20%

(4) Attendance 20%

5. Assessment Criteria
(1) The Test shall be conducted on the last day of class and the areas of test shall be "Reading,
Listening, Speaking, Writing". The Speaking Test shall be conducted by 1:1 interview process
especially. Should the student be absent on the day of Test, only cases which qualify for official
absence / medial emergency can be taken into account for special consideration.
(2) The Quiz shall be conducted after each chapter is finished by total of 2 times. The Quiz shall
make up 20% of the total grade and each Quiz shall account for 10% of the total grade from the
scale of 100%. Should the student be absent on the day of Quiz, there would be no opportunity to
make up for it.
(3) Homework would imply the homework assignments & presentation works.
(4) From the total 17 classes, the student must attend 15 or more classes to receive an official
grade. Should the student have attended 14 or less classes, regardless of all the other assessment
criteria, the student shall automatically fail the class. The course attendance roster shall take place
right after the class begins. If the student comes 30 minutes tardy to class or leave 30 minutes early
from official ending time, they are called 'tardy' and 'early leave' respectively. 3 tardiness or early
leaves shall account for 1 absence.

Student must try best to use the Korean language only during class time.
Students cannot consume food & beverages during class time.
Students must all turn off their cell phones during class time.
