Pipe Flow Design Calculations

The document describes designing a pipe flow based on given parameters. The pipe is calculated to have a diameter of 40 cm based on applying the Darcy-Weisbach equation using the discharge of 0.515 m3/s, friction factor of 0.03, pipe length of 1150 m, and head loss of 88 m.

Design of Pipe-flow:

For a pipe flow,

Discharge through the pipe flow (Q) = 0.515 m3/s
Friction factor (f) = 0.03
Length of pipe (l) = 1.15 km= 1150 m
Head loss (hf) = 88 m
We know, Darcy–Weisbach equation:
hf fl v 2
¿
2 gD

Solving,
2 2
8 fl Q πD
D= 5
√ g π2 hf
[ Q= A∗v ; A=
4
]

8∗0.03∗1150∗0.5152
D= 5
√ 9.81∗π 2∗88
= 0.386 m
= 38.6 cm ≈ 40 cm
