DISCUSSION SHEET STUDENTS

Learning objectives

1. Students can compare the magnitude of the reaction force that occurs between
birds and air when the birds are flying

Work Instruction:

1. Discuss with groups via online.

2. Use the literature that you have to answer questions in Worksheet.
3. Write the results of group discussions in the Worksheet concise and
interesting.
4. Presentation of group discussion results via Video Call WA.

Read the following illustration!

One day Iwan was playing in his yard, his father's yard was raising various
poultry such as chickens, ducks and pigeons. His father was training the dove
by releasing it from the cage, then the dove flew at its height. While his mother
was feeding chickens and ducks, after being fed the chickens were left alone
and not put into a cage. Then Iwan wondered, why did the chicken and duck not
fly like doves when they both had wings and feathers?
Phase 2 - Organizing Students for Learning

1. What problems do you have in the illustration above?

why did the chicken and duck not fly like doves when they both
had wings and feathers

2. What science phenomena are there in the above problems?

the phenomenon of science in the problem above is the phenomenon of a

dove that can fly high, which it uses the principles of the third Newton law

3. What hypothesis can you give regarding the above problem?

Chickens and ducks can lift their bodies occasionally with flapping
wings, but can not carry their bodies higher alias can not fly like a bird.

The reason is because chickens and ducks have a larger body than
their wings. That way, they will not be able to fly high with the
strongest muscles. Chicken and duck wing size is not proportional to
body size or out of balance.

In contrast to chickens and ducks, birds have a wide wing shape, a

dense feather arrangement, and a smaller and lighter body size. With
a body like that, the bird will easily lift the body with wings.
