4 Piping Loads (Refer to Piping drawings)

5 Imposed Loads
5.1 Buildings
For the design of each structural element the imposed loads shall be applied in the least favorable pattern.
Imposed loads on floors shall be the actual loads when these are known, but shall not be less than the distributed loads
given below. The following loads are to be applied over the full floor area:

Warehouses Ground floor 30 kN/m2

Office 3.00 kN/m2

Generator and Transformer 10.00 kN/m2

Pump yard 7.50 kN/m2

5.1.1 Note: The actual load shall be checked against the above loading, with due account being taken of material
handling methods such as for lift trucks, which impose high concentrated loads.
Pedestrian areas, balconies, fire escape, etc. and Refer TCVN 2737-95
areas accessible to normal vehicular traffic
Roofs used for maintenance access only 1.00 kN/m2
Roofs used for access to equipment 3.00 kN/m2

5.2 Structures
Imposed loads on floors, platforms and framing in structures shall not be less than the distributed loads given below:
Point loads from pipe supports on structures shall be the actual loads when they are known. In the absence of known point
loads from pipe supports each structure members (excluding bracing) shall be checked for a single point load of 5.0 kN in
the least favorable position.
Note: The following distributed loads must be combined with dead loads and piping loads where applicable.

Steel floor plate (open grid flooring) 5.0 kN/m2

Concrete floor slabs, steel and concrete Framing 5.0 kN/m2

Minor platforms, walkways, and floors used for access to

equipment only 3.0 kN/m2

Floors, plates, platforms and framing subject to temporary

storage of heavy equipment components 5.0 kN/m2
Note: The structural elements shall be checked when the actual equipment storage loads become known

Roofs used for access to equipment 3.0 kN/m2

Roofs with access for maintenance only 1.0 kN/m2

Stairs and landings 5.0 kN/m2 or

5.0 kN concentrated load

Ladders (Vertical) 2.5kN concentrated load on a rung

(Horizontal) 0.5kN concentrated

Note: Roofs carrying equipment shall, in addition to the above, be designed for the load imposed
by the equipment supported.

Platforms attached to vessels 2.5 kN/m2

Handrailing 1kN in any direction or 0.75 kN/m vertical and horizontal. 100% of the weight of process or test fluid, in vessels
and piping as appropriate for the load combinations given in Table 1

5.3 Handling Facilities

Permanent handling facilities shall be designed for the following loads:

5.3.1 Exchanger foundations, pull beams and their supports, shall resist bundle pulling forces of:
a) 100% bundle weight for bundles less than 22 kN
b) 22 kN for bundles 22 kN to 44 kN
c) 50% bundle weight for bundles greater than 44 kN

5.3.2 The pulling force shall be assumed to act at the centre line of the exchanger and is resisted by the fixed end support
only. The cases to be considered are:
a) Both bundles pulled simultaneously with each force acting at its respective center line.
b) The upper bundle pulling force acting at its centre line with the lower exchanger bundle having been removed (i.e.
reduced vertical loading).

5.4 Roads, Bridges and Culverts

The design of roads, bridges and box culverts shall be based on the wheel loads from a mobile crane with a maximum axle
load taken as 15 tonnes per axle to represent loading from multi-wheeled heavy load trailers.
6 Dynamic Loads
6.1 Lifting Devices
Imposed loads from the following equipment shall be increased by the amounts shown to allow for dynamic forces:
Elevator -100% vertical
Davits shall be designed for the heaviest item to be lifted plus 25% for impact but not less than a total of 450 kg. Lateral
forces shall be assumed as 20% of the lifted load. A line pull of 100% of the lifted load shall be included to provide for the
possibility of the load being handled by a line over a single pulley.

Specification 1182009.
7 Wind And Earthquake Loads
Loads due to Wind and Earthquake shall be in accordance with Project Specification 1182002
8 Miscellaneous Loads
Consideration shall be given to loads of a special nature such as piping counterweights, spring hangers, thrusts from
expansion joints, expansion loads from horizontal vessels and exchangers, purpose made handling equipment such as
counterbalanced crane hooks, and thermal expansion of the structure.
9 Loading Combinations
All buildings, structures, equipment, and foundations shall be investigated for each of the loading combinations given in
Table 1 and 2, the most severe shall determine the final design. Load factors shall be in accordance with TCVN 2737-95,
