Houses and flats

Well, I live in a huge detached house with my family. It’s a two-storey bulding. It’s situated
in the ouskirts of town, so, luckily, it’s far from the noise of the town centre. We have been
living here for the past 10 to twelve years.
Most people in Hungary live in blocks of flats of detached houses.
I suppose it can be advantageous to live in detached house for several reasons. Although I’ve
never lived in a block of flats, I know quite a lot about it. Personally I believe, detached
houses have more pros than a block of flats. Firstly, a detached house is usually bigger, and
you have your own garden, more opportunities to spend your freetime meaningfully. What’s
more, you have no disturbing neighbours.
However, it also has its drawbacks. Unfortunately, not all neighbours are quiet and kind. In
addition, It takes more time to tidy up, and clean a detached house. Secondly, you even have
to keep your garden tidy.
Of course, blocks of flats also have their pros. Firstly, you can ask your neighbours for help,
at any time. Secondly, if you live on the top floor, for instance, you have a fascinating view.
On the downside, you might overhear your neighbours because the pipes conduct sound and ,
actually, they are thin.
As for the layout of the house, as I have mentioned, it is an enormous tw-storey building.
Downstairs there’s a gym, a sauna, 3 kitchens,a larder, 4 bathrooms, a living-room and 5
bedrooms. Upstairs there are 2 kitchens, 2 bathrooms, a balcony and three bedrooms.
Around the house there’s a large yard, and we also have a fantastic swimming pool. I love
spending those sweltering hot days there in summer.

My bedroom: I an enormous bedroom. There is a carpit in the middle, on the floor. My

double-bed is opposite my door. There is a chest of drawers next to mybed. I have a big bean
bag behind my bed. I have a huge wardrobe in one corner. I have a large desk opposite my
wardrobe and a small chest of drawers next to it. I have an enormous bookcase next to my
desk. I have a beautiful view of the castle of Veszprém.

My bathroom: We have, 7 bathrooms, but I ’m going to describe only one now: As we enter
the bathroom, there are two showers on the right, and a wall cabinet on the left. Opposite the
door is a huge and comfortble tub and above it is a large window. Next to the cabinet, on the
right, there is a tap, and a washbasin. Above it is a large mirror. There is a toilet next to the
shower. There a re a lot of flowers on the window-seal. I also have three potted flowers there.
My favourite one is my carnivorous plant.
Our kitchen is well-equipped with all modern household appliances such as: a dioshwasher, a
percolator, a blender, a micro-wave oven, a cooker and an extractor fan. We also have a
toaster and a mincer, too.
My balcony: We have two balconies, butI’d like to describe the larger one. From our
balcony, there is a wonderful view of the castle of Veszprém. There is a very long, and large
table on the balcony. There are comfortable softchairs around the large table.
Our terrace is open, but there is a roof above the terrace. There are also plenty of plants on
our terrace, in front of the balcony railin. You can go out to our terrace through a huge
glasswindow. There is a large barbecue on the terrace, and a cart.
To my mind, we are extremely lucky, because we also have a wonderful garden with fruit
trees and vegetables. In the garden we plant seasonal fruits and vegetables, too. At times we
have to water the flower beds and prune the trees.
Household chores: In our family, the division of household chores is quite fair, but, honestly,
it’s usually my mom who takes the lion’s share. It’s always me who cleans up my room.
Mymom is in charge of hoovering the carpits, washing up the dishes and cooking. My dad is
responsible for working in the garden. He is waters the flowers such as tulips, roses and
daffodils, and he mows the lawn. My sister is in charge of dusting the furniture and my
brother usually rakes the fallen leaves, and prunes the trees in tha garden.
