Valves and its Types
Valves
A device for controlling the passage of fluid through a pipe or duct, especially an automatic device
allowing movement in one direction only.

Types
1. Gate Valves 2. Globe Valves
3. Ball Valves 4. Plug valves
5. Butterfly Valves 6. Diaphragm Valves
7. Checks Valves 8. Safety Valves
8. Relief valves
1. Gate Valves

Gate valves are primarily designed for on-off services. They are best used in systems which require
infrequent use of the valve. The valves are designed for full-area flow to minimize the pressure drop and
allow the passage of a pipe-cleaning pig.

Manual Operated Valves

Manual valves isolate, switch and control fluid flow in a piping system. These valves are operated by
hand with levers and gear operators.

Pneumatic
Pneumatic valves are one of an array of components responsible for controlling the pressure, rate, and
amount of air as it moves through a pneumatic system. Pneumatic systems, which depend on the force of
compressed air to transmit power, can be found in countless industrial applications, from pneumatic
pressure power tools to diesel engines.
Motor
A machine, especially one powered by electricity or internal combustion, that supplies motive power for a
vehicle or for another device with moving parts.

Hydraulic valve
Hydraulic valves are pressure control, flow control, and directional control hydraulic valves.

Bleeder Valve
A bleed screw is a device used to create a temporary opening in an otherwise closed hydraulic system,
which facilitates the removal of air or another substance from the system by way of pressure and density
differences.

Needle valve
An instrument needle valve uses a tapered pin to gradually open a space for fine control of flow.

2. Globe valves
A Globe valves is a linear motion valve and are primarily designed to stop, start and regulate flow. The
disk of a Globe valve can be totally removed from the flowpath or it can completely close the flowpath.

3. Ball Valves
Ball valves are reliable and simple to use as a shutoff valve or flow metering valve. Just a quarter turn of
the handle opens or closes the valve.

4. Plug valves
Plug valves are valves with cylindrical or conically tapered "plugs" which can be rotated inside
the valve body to control flow through the valve. The plugs in plug valves have one or more hollow
passageways going sideways through the plug, so that fluid can flow through the plug when the valve is
open.

5. Butterfly valve
It allows for quick shut off. Generally, butterfly valves have favor than other due to low cost.

Pinch valve
A pinch valve is a full bore or fully ported type of control valve which uses a pinching effect to obstruct
fluid flow.

6. Check valve
Simply put, a check valve allows flow in one direction and automatically prevents back flow (reverse
flow) when fluid in the line reverses direction. They are one of the few self-automated valves that do not
require assistance to open and close.

Check stop valve

. Stop check valves have two main purposes:

1) as a globe valve, they isolate or regulate flow and

2) modified as a check valve, they prevent reverse flow.

Three-way valve
The purpose of a 3-way control valve is to shut off water flow in one pipe while opening water flow in
another pipe, to mix water from two different pipes into one pipe, or to separate water from one pipe into
two different pipes.
Four-way valve
Four-way, directional-control valves are used to control the direction of fluid flow in a hydraulic circuit,
which controls the direction of movement of a work cylinder or the rotation of a fluid motor.

Knife valve
For extremely thick fluids, a specialty valve often known as a knife gate valve is used to cut through the
liquid.

Gauge valve
Shut-off and throttle valve for pressure measuring instruments, for measuring liquids, gases and vapors.

Orifice valve
used to control the amount of refrigerant entering the evaporator. ... It cannot vary the amount of
refrigerant flowing into the evaporator.

7 . Safety valve
used in steam digester and utilized a weight to retain the steam pressure.

Rotameter valve
They provide a simple, precise and economical means of indicating flow rates in fluid systems.
8 .Diaphragm valve
Originally, the diaphragm valve was developed for use in industrial applications. Later on the design was
adapted for use in the bio-pharmaceutical industry by using compliant materials that can withstand
sanitizing and sterilizing methods.

9 . Relief valve
The relief valve is designed or set to open at a predetermined set pressure to protect pressure vessels
and other equipment from being subjected to pressures that exceed their design limits.

  hydraulic motor
A hydraulic motor is a mechanical actuator that converts hydraulic pressure and flow into torque and
angular displacement. The hydraulic motor is the rotary counterpart of the hydraulic cylinder as a linear
actuator.

solenoid valve

A solenoid valve is an electromechanical actuated valve to control the flow of liquids and gases.
