ANTHROPOLOGY
• A.) Definition
• - is the scientific study of the origins of humans, how we have changed over
the years, and how we relate to each other, both within our own culture and
with people from other cultures.
• - Anthropologists study humans and their societies in the past and present.
• - “Anthropos” is the greek word for “human being” and the “suffix-logos”
means “the study of.”

• - The main concern of anthropology is to understand the diversity and
dispersion of human beings from the standpoint of cultural differences.
• - Every culture has its own particular rituals, behaviors, and lifestyles, and the
people in the field of anthropology document the many varieties of human
experience.
• - Generally speaking, anthropology refers to the study of human.

• - According to the University of Hawaii at Hilo, anthropology “emphasizes
comparing human groups to understand the range of variation in human
behavior.”
• - Anthropology is the study of the various human cultures in the world now
and throughout history.

• C.) Importance of study
• - Anthropology is important because its ability to synthesize the learning of other
discipline into one comprehensive picture of what it means to be a human.
• - It can help us understand more about where our cultures might be going in the
future because we predict future trends based on the past growth and progress.
• -Self-Knowledge and self-exploration through study of an arc of social sciences and
humanities is important in gaining an understanding of “the bigger picture” of
human culture.

• A.) Definition
• - Sociology is the scientific study of society.
• - According to Georg Simmel, a German sociologists in his work entitled
Individuality and Social Forms (1908) “society exists where a number of
individuals enter into interaction which arises on the basis of certain drives
or for the sake of certain purposes.
• - Sociology comes from the latin word socius which means “associate or
companion” and the Greek word logos which means “The study of.”

• - Ever since the beginning of sociology, sociologists have shown a great
concern in man and in the dynamics of society.
• - The main concern of sociology is sociological analysis. It means that
sociologists seeks to provide an analysis of human society and culture with a
sociological perspective.
• -Sociology has given sufficient attention to the study of primary units of
social life.
SOCIOLOGY
• - It is concerned with social arts and social relationships, Individual
personality, groups of all varieties, communities, associations, organization
and population.
• - Sociology has been concerned with the development, structure and
function of a wide variety of basic social institutions such as the family and
kinship, religion and property, economic, political, legal, educational and
scientific, recreational and welfare, aesthetic and expressive institutions.

• C.) Importance of the Study
• - It is important because it is impossible to understand and solve its
numerous problems without the support of sociology. We cannot
understand and mend society without any knowledge of its mechanism and
construction.
• - Sociology is important because it is the solution for social problems. It is of
sociologists to study the social problems through the methods of scientific
research and to find solutions to them.

• - Sociology has been instrumental in changing our attitude towards human
beings.
• - Sociology has given us training to have rational approach to questions
concerning oneself, one’s religion, customs, moral and institutions.
• - Sociology impresses upon us the necessity of overcoming narrow personal
prejudices, ambitions and class hatred.
e.g: The criminals are now treated as human beings with potential for change
and not just as mere nuisance.

• A.) Definition
• - Is a systematic study of state and government.
• - The word politics derived from the greek word “polis” which means “city-
state” and the word science comes from the latin word “scire” which means
“to know”
• - Political Science is a study of politics and governmental issues on how they
contribute in the society.

• - B.) Subject Inquiry
• - Political science is one important branch of social science and its concern is
with political behavior of individuals, groups of individuals, agencies,
institutions, and organizations, among others.
• - A renowed author has analyzed the scope of political science from
different angles, and these are: politics as the art of government, politics as
public affairs, politics as compromise and consensus, politics as power and
distribution of resources.

• C.) Importance of the Study
1) Imparting knowledge of the state – Its aim is to inculcate knowledge of
the state in its origin, nature, structure and functions.
2) Imparting knowledge of government and administration- The
principles and norms established by scholars are immense utility and value
to be executives, legislators and judges. Political science is said to be a
science of statemanship and leadership.

3) Imparting knowledge about the world – In order to know what is happening in
the world around us at least an elementary knowledge of political science is
necessary.
4) Creation of democratic values- The success of democracy depends upon the
political consciousness of its people. The study of political science makes people
conscious of their rights and duties.
5) Creation of good citizenship – The study of political science creates good
citizenship in a nation. It makes the citizen conscious of national objectives and
goals.

• 6) Lesson of cooperation and toleration- Political science also teaches
lesson of cooperation, adjustment and toleration. Society cannot prosper
without cooperation. Man should learn how to cooperate and adjust himself
with his fellow beings.
*Political Science is important because its study helps us to understand the
mechanism and constitutional systems of modern government.
