Guillermo González García, Ceva Global Veterinary Services Manager

Why Ceva and processing?

2. Why « Slaughterhouse Respiratory Check (SRC) »?

• Ceva helps customers in designing the best animal health approach
• Ceva has already a long experience with the C.H.I.C.K. program and the
Global Protection Services (GPS) in respiratory health
• We aim to help customers improve the health status of their flocks by
tracing back disease issues. The slaughterhouse is a very effective point
to achieve this.
• The target is to reduce disease pressure and improve profitability,
tackling at the same time possible quality and welfare issues at
slaughterhouse level

▪ Welfare, disease & economics:
Density in the crates is low
(5 birds/crate)

Summary of recommendations
• 3 Interesting points: Ventilation, stunner and lighting

• Ventilation to avoid panting in the lairage is not appropriately

configured. Fog and higher stream velocity can be added:
▪ Truck of 1790 birds ≈ 50 Dead on Arrival (100% suffocation)
▪ At 1,6 Kg. And 75% yield ≈ 1,2 Kg. ≈ 60 Kg. Non-sold x 11 Trucks (50000
per day) = 1340 Kg. disposed of dressed meat = 3416 US $/day
▪ 1 Million $/Year
▪ Recomendation to:
▪ Increase space between crates (1 feet)
▪ Support with extra fans (artifacts stopping the air current)
