and borrow from a traditional view in the study of the community. The geopolitical nature of the
community is formed either through boundaries that are manmade or natural. The human made
boundaries can be structural, political or legal. The focus on the geopolitical brings the nurses
attention on the environment, housing and political process and subsystems as well as the
distribution and composition of the community (Themes, 2016). The Bromleys reside in the
larger community of Jamaica Queens in New York City. The geographical boundaries of the
neighborhood are about 2675 square miles. The community is defined by structural boundaries
as per the cities historical planning. To the east is the Hollis, the areas of St Albans, Springfield
gardens and Rochdale are located to the south east of the community. The northern area of the
community shares boundaries with Jamaica Hills, Kew garden hills and Jamaica estate. In the
south the community borders South Jamaica and Richmond Hill to the east. Looking at the
phenomenological or emotional boundaries of the community, the community stands out as one
of the most diverse and cultured areas in the world with over 180 nationalities. Therefore, while
the diverse nature of the community means members of the community do not share same
cultural beliefs or history, the boundaries within the community are abstract than geopolitical.
The community was once an ancient trail for the local tribes from the interior coming to
trade in furs and skins. The English took over the surrounding community in 1664 and named the
area Jameco after the local natives living in the area (UrbanNet, 2014). In 1683 the province of
New York was divided in to counties by the British and Jamaica became the county seat of

Queens County. In 1805 one of the signatories to the American constitution Rufus relocated to
queens Jamaica and built a Manor that stands in the location now , it is known as Kings Manor

office was opened in 1794 and it became the only post office in the Boroughs until
1803.Moreover the present long island rail road Jamaican station was completed in 1913 other
lines that followed include the BMT line and IND queens Blvd. The lines increased
transportation in the area and attributed to migration to the area (UrbanNet, 2014). More recently

Looking at the climatic features of Jamaica Queens, the summers are usually warm and
humid and during the winter like the most of New York the weather is usually cold and very
windy. For most of the year the climate is usually wet and partly cloudy. The weather poses a
significant challenge to the Bromely whose son suffers from asthma and the challenge of cold
wet weather might have an impact on the asthma. It is quite clear why the family would want to
The economic and employment climate within the Jamaica area in Queens NY has not
been quite positive in the recent decades. For example during the 1970s there was massive
unemployment that prompted a lot of the community residents to migrate to other areas. The
area lost about 10% of the residents due to economic downfalls (Dinapoli & Bleiwas, 2016). The
economy of the area is closely linked to the John F Kennedy international airport, many of the

residents in the area work within the retail sector, business associated with the airport and
healthcare (Dinapoli & Bleiwas, 2016). Additionally, the community has one of the highest
numbers of employees working in the protective services among the 55 neighborhoods in the
city, as observed in the Bromely family where Remona is an officer. The extensive transportation
network within the city is also attracting a lot of residents and businesses. In recent years the area
is transforming into a vibrant commercial hub, with a new rezoning plan aimed at attracting
General Services

are about five general services companies in the community of Jamaica Queens and the y deal
