Define Objectives, Subordinate and Entry Skills for Service-Learning Communication 1010 Course

Based on the knowledge of new college learners and the following instructional goal: 
Instructional Goal: Develop experiential knowledge of the mutually beneficial impact of service-
learning.
 Outline for goal achievement through goal steps (objectives) and plan for implementing
the subordinate skills and entry skills appending weekly course communication activities.
1. Define subordinate skills
Skills:  
Cognitive: 
Ability to read information for understanding.
Ability to make connections between information and experiential learning.
Ability to analyze learning through service-learning.
Verbal:
Ability to communicate with peers and instructor and plan for service-learning.
Ability to communicate with community partners.
Ability to communicate with community members in meaningful ways. 
Ability to share service-learning experiences with others

Learning Objectives:  

1.0 Prepare for effectual community engagement through service-learning

2.0 Develop capacity to become community engage-learner.


3.0 Expand emerging awareness of organizations addressing community’s social issues.
4.0 Make connection between effective communication efficacy and social impact.
5.0 Make connection between service-learning and its positive social impact & deep learning.

a. Based on the goal and goal steps, identify the subordinate skills under each of the goal steps.

1.3 Understand benefits of service-learning for self-development.
1.4 Understand social impact of service-learning in community,

2.0 Develop the ability to become community engaged learners


2.1 Understand what service-learning in relation to communication.
2.2 Learn how to interview community members and partners 
2.3 Learn how to observe non-verbal communication in interviews and for data collection.
2.4 Learn how to collect data.
2.5 Learn how to analyze data.
2.6 Learn how to synthesize data. 
2.7 Learn how to draw conclusion from data.

3.0 Develop emerging awareness   of service organizations addressing community social issues.
  3.1 Search online sources to learn about community partners.
3.2 Select community partner.
3.3 Select method of contacting community partner.
3.3.1 Visit Zoom Meeting or view videos of organization
3.3.2 Meet Face to face. 
3.3.3 Make a phone call.
3.4 Meet with partner to learn about community needs.
3.5 Recognize mutual beneficial relationships with community partners

4.0 Make connection between effective communication efficacy and social impact.
4.1 Study training video of service-learning and worksheets.
4.2 Participate in remote service-learning experience.
4.3 Return to Objective 2.0 and 2.4, 2.5, 2.6, 2.7.
4.5 Report on service-learning experiences
4.5 Plan innovative service-learning event or product
4.5.1 Share service-learning event or product face to face
4.5.2 Share service-learning event or product on social media

5.0 Through reflection understand the significance of service and community engaged learning,

5.2 Reflect on service-learning in including other’s perspectives
5.3. Reflect on service-learning connecting mutually beneficial aspects for self and community.

2.4 Make plans to for ongoing social impact actions in partnership with others.
2. Define entry skills
a. Based on learner analysis, identify the entry skills for the training.
1.0 Entry Level Skill -Awareness of Community Social Issues
Based on learner analysis and interviews, students do not fully 
understand service-learning and how to participate.

2.0 Entry Level Skill- Learning about service-learning from peers. 


Students did have some understanding about what service-learning is, but not
sufficient for effectual participation.
                      
                     3.0 Entry Level Skills- Awareness of Non-Profit organizations.
Students are aware of non-profit service-organization especially the United
Way.
Searching for Non-profit organizations skills. Student know how-to search but 
need help identifying best choices for service-learning.

4.0 Entry Level Skills- Use social media to share service-learning information.
5.0 Entry Level Skill- Understand how to reflect on service-learning experiences with
civic literacy enquiry.
