How to promote sustainability practices during stay @ IHCL

• Sustainable travel means Eco-friendly habits, Ethical engagement and Sustainable consumption.
• There would be minimum impact on community/heritage/environment during customer stay in hotel.
• IHCL has been working on sustainability mission and initiated may activities. followings steps can be added in long term to
promote sustainability travels & voluntourism.
 Use of battery powered vehicle for reducing carbon foot print. IHCL can purchase Tata Motors EVs which can be used for airport pickup-drop,
local travelling to NGO location. (Can start for guest who opted voluntourism programme, later can be extended to all guests).
 Bicycle & small battery powered vehicles for movement inside hotel premise.
 Reduce use of plastic in all items

 Group activities for all Guests like Beach clean drive/Forest clean drive under guidance of local
community/instructor.
 Visit to IHCL supported Organizations/Vendors for learning & sharing sustainable practice with guests.
 In-premise activities if any such as tree-plantation drive, recycle product manufacturing plant, animal welfare.
All activities can be arrange under observation of IHCL Co-ordinators and provide necessary supports like safety kits, food, transportation,
accommodation arrangement!
Voluntourism Activities Evaluation & Recognition

 Because of misunderstanding between Organization co-ordinator & Volunteer, many time community/ organization
not get any benefits from volunteer work. streamline process need to follow to avoid this issue. Before starting
Volunteering Activities, understanding & confirmation required between Organization/community and volunteer.
 Best way is to record all planned activities, targets along with timeline to give clear understanding to volunteer &
Organization/community co-ordinator.
 Organization/community co-ordinator help volunteer by giving basic hands on training to avoid any safety incidence
& any harm to community.
 Co-ordinator observe volunteer’s works, behaviour over period and inform volunteer about correct process if any!
 At the end, Co-ordinator evaluate work based on initial activity goals. During evaluation, co-ordinator can take
inputs of local community/organization staff also about how much they benefited through volunteer’s work.
 Overall detailed report will share with IHCL co-ordinator for review.

A written voluntourism policy demonstrates the support and commitment of the company. Formal structure and policies are necessary for establishing
the scope.

 No any financial donation to benefitted organization/community. Focus more on skilled based volunteering.
 No harm to any organization/local community. Aligning volunteering activities with local culture and context.
 Activities need to carried out under strict observation of co-ordinator.
 During volunteering activity, place should not be littered by plastics bottles, paper wastage.
 All Volunteering activities should be authentic. Not affect to employability of community.
 All tools & resources given by community need to return without damage.
 Social media policy for participating organizations to refrain use of articles & photographs for other activities.
 Volunteers should treat every individual equally and not discriminate on the basic of age,culture,caste,disability,gender.
 In case any sensitive/personal information is received during activity, it should be treated as confidential.
