What is the problem of Education and Health in Honduras?

The coronavirus disease pandemic (COVID-19) has caused an unprecedented crisis in all
areas. In the area of education, this emergency has led to the massive closure of face-to-
face activities of educational institutions in more than 190 countries in order to prevent the
spread of the virus and mitigate its impact.

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) has stated that
even before the pandemic was confronted, the social situation in the region was
deteriorating, due to rising poverty and extreme poverty rates, persistent inequalities and
growing social discontent. In this context, the crisis will have significant negative effects on
different social sectors, including particularly health and education, as well as on
employment and the evolution of poverty. For its part, UNESCO has identified major gaps
in educational outcomes, which are related to an unequal distribution of teachers in general
and of the best qualified teachers in particular, to the detriment of countries and regions
with lower incomes and of rural areas, which also tend to concentrate indigenous and
migrant populations.

In the area of education, many of the measures that the countries of the region have adopted
in response to the crisis are related to the suspension of face-to-face classes at all levels,
which has given rise to three main areas of action: the deployment of distance learning
modalities, using a variety of formats and platforms (with or without the use of
technology); support and mobilization of educational personnel and communities; and
attention to the health and comprehensive well-being of students.

We can see the range of consequences that these measures will have on educational
communities in the short and medium term, as well as make key recommendations to best
cope with the impact by projecting opportunities for learning and innovation in post-
pandemic education.
Possible solutions to this problem.

1. We must totally modify the Honduran educational system, to provide it with the
necessary tools so that our children can achieve greater goals.
2. The educational capacity of the Honduran population must be strengthened with greater
investment and with educational models in which not only memoristic activity is
encouraged, but also modern learning processes, which are currently very successful at the
international level.
3. I believe that the State's investment, since this is a new opportunity that COVID-19
teaches us, can rethink the great objectives of the republic towards the strengthening of the
educational and health areas of our country.
4. The COVID-19 "has stripped us bare and allows us to see more clearly where we should
aim. The government and society must participate in this effort, with politicians who do not
make promises they will not keep. We have to pressure so that this does not happen again,
we have to orient ourselves towards the true development that our country implies, that is to
say, a country where education is a priority and where health is a priority as well.
