The Education System of Pakistan
“Knowledge, like air, is vital to life.
Like air, no one should be denied it”.
Everyone has a right for education and it is one of the basic rights that cannot
be suspended even during times of disaster or war.
 In the past, there had been some events leading to the closure of education
institutions in some areas, i.e. Azad Kashmir - after earthquake in 2004
heavy rains and Floods in 2010 and 2011 but those closures were not at such
huge scale. To prevent the virus from spreading within the society, lockdown
was imposed by government.
 Pakistan has some of the world’s worst education indicators with 40%
children not attending any form of formal education. The COVID-19 crisis
has further aggravated the situation,

 Physical education is necessary not only for learning but also to raise the
skills of the children; it enhances the abilities of children.
 While COVID-19 pandemic is expected to impact us for a long time so the
closure of educational institutions, public and many private schools shifted
to alternative system of online learning. However, For most students, the
process of learning came to a halt.
 Many students from rural areas and some low-cost schools in urban area
may not be able to meet the demand of online education i.e. IT literacy,
access to internet and digital devices. the issue of accessibility and
affordability pose a challenge the education system.
Different online platforms has been
introduced which includes the
following tools:

Instructional Strategies For Online Learning
1. Voice and pitch management 2. Developing student skills in
Effective communication between students and online learning
teachers is very important. In online learning, Instructors should assign challenging task to

instructors’ eye contact, body language and which can enhance student learning skills in

physical gestures are missing so the instructor online learning and ensure that students are more

needs to keep voice pitch high and practicing focused in classes. Time-to-time Feedback from

vocal functioning like pauses. This will ensure students regarding these classes can improve the

effective learning for students during online capacity of online classes.

teaching.
3. Formulating strategies to enhance online
class interactions
In order to be beneficial, instructors need to engage the students
in online classes as more student and teacher discussion can
result in higher interactivity. Online class participation will
encourage student presence and improve learning abilities.
Teachers should prepare lectures beforehand and them with
students before conducting the classes.
4. Backup plans for immediate
situations
Various systematic or technical problems can occur anytime
with students. Most of the institute lack appropriate resources/
equipment for conducting online classes. Most of the students
and even the instructors themselves faces the issues like
overloading of server, lack of computer devices, and unable to
perform software installations. To cope up with these issues,
institutions must have backup plans like Plan B or Plan C to
resolve these issues without causing any harm/delays for
students.
Educational Divide
COVID-19 is to set inequalities in the education system of
Pakistan. There are various divides in a typical Pakistani
educational system, into various parallel systems ranging
from the different mediums of instructions to different
textbooks and different methods of learning.
• English and non English, English in Urdu and Sindhi
Separate schools for girls and boys, social, religious,
and economic divisions; elite and non elite, public and
private, military and madrasah, rural and urban.
There could be variable impacts of COVID-19 across
society, parents, input that students could receive from
families during this pandemic, assessment, gender, and
schools.
Private Schools at the verge of death?

Private schools in Pakistan has significant presence about 40 % (both number of schools and

student enrolment) urban and rural areas. Private schools are often preferred as majority of these

schools are low-cost affordable to the middle class and poor families who pay very low fees.

Due to the prolong lockdown, the entire private education system is in a deeper crisis since the

operational cost is dependent on revenue generated through school tuition fee . There is a high

risk that some of these private schools will be able to provide access to education via online

learning.

If private schools terminate their operation, it will create a huge void in the education sector of

the country as the public sector is already running beyond capacity.

Recommendations

 The time calls to develop a solid goal that must impart relevant, high-quality learning opportunities to the
learners of all sectors.
 The strategy of each educational institute must be to deliver the quality teaching with improved learning,
and professional development of instructors.
 Provinces should develop and promote localized, free and open digital tools to make large-scale remote
learning possible for every student.
 The government should encourage and support private schools in their difficult times and revive this
effective system of education as they had played their role in delivering better quality education.
 Above all, it is important that we learn from the experience of others and device our own strategies suited to
the local environment of the country.
COVID-19 “A life Changer”
The unpredictable and overwhelming COVID-19 has completely and radically
changed our lives.
 Prior to the pandemic; I had my year plans, what I was going to do the whole
year. However, this pandemic made me understand the wisdom’s word “Man
proposes, God Disposes”.
 Everything was forced to change that happened in my life. Masks used to be
an attire reserved only for medial staff. They were the only ones who
needed it – but now I never leave the house without one.
 I changed my attitude and approaches which made me more
productive now. Thus, COVID-19 can be called a “Blessing in disguise”.
