speaker’s self-image.

Ans: . Deference strategy is involved in what is called as ‘formal
politeness’ and it is usually impersonal; nothing is shared and may
include expressions that refer neither to speaker or the hearer.

threatening acts?
Ans: there are five main super strategies involved when performing
FTA which include:

a. Do the FTA on record without redressive actions (least


polite)- bald on record;
b. Do the FTA on record with redressive action addressing
positive face (lesser risk)- positive politeness;
c. Do the FTA on record with redressive action addressing
negative face (greater risk) -negative politeness;
d. Do the FTA off record, indirectly (greater risk than on
record)
