Linear Regression Assignment Menu

Objectives:
● Students will understand how to use a linear regression line
● Students will practice using the calculator to compute and interpret statistical output involving linear regression
● Students will be able to interpret the slope and y-intercept of the regression line

Directions:
● Choose ONE activity in each category: Appetizers, Entrees, and Desserts.

Menu
Appetizers
1 Watch this short video on linear regression to review important concepts from last class: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPG4NjIkCjc
and then write a short summary about the how linear regression is used in real life

2 Write a short paragraph regarding the pros and cons of using linear regression for extrapolating (include real life examples)

Entrees
1 Find and partner and choose 20 NBA players and research their statistics regarding average turnover and points per game. Use the
gathered info to create a scatterplot, a linear regression equation, and a residual plot. Then write a summary regarding the association
between the two variables using your graphs and equation as justification. Be sure to mention if a regression line is even appropriate for the
data. (1 summary per person)

2 Find a partner and go survey 20 other students (not in this class) regarding average time spent on HW and GPA. Use your data to create a
scatterplot, a linear regression equation, and a residual plot. Then write a summary regarding the association between the two variables
using your graphs and equation as justification. Be sure to mention if a regression line is even appropriate for the data. (1 summary per
person)
Desserts
1 Use quizlet.com to create a 5-question quiz regarding linear regression and exchange with your partners to solve their quiz.

2 Create a Venn Diagram (https://www.canva.com/graphs/venn-diagrams/) to compare and contrast between the correlation coefficient and
coefficient of determination.
