Introduction

During the recent pandemic of 2020, I was given the opportunity to explore and experiment other
activities that could potentially be beneficial for me in the future. One such venture explored was the
creation of a social media presence. One thing social media needs, just like any company, is a brand.
The brand I created, social media focused on my views on current events, came with a simple logo of
a microphone as seen below:

Figure 1: Brand logo for social media presence.

Like many logos today, mine is very minimalistic and contains simple lines. They seemed simple
enough to be graphed on a cartesian plane. This was the birth of my exploration. I set out to find the
functions that will represent every line on of the logo. The portions of Mathematics that I intended to
showcase in this exploration are piecewise functions, identifying function types, transformation of
functions, and regression.

The original plan of action was as follows:

1. Superimpose the image onto a cartesian plane with the x and y axes.
2. Create as many points on the logo, ensuring that as many points as possible can be found on the
curved lines.
3. Identify coordinates of all the points.
4. Group the coordinates of points in terms of individual lines that would make up the entire logo.
5. Create and transform vertical and horizontal lines to line up with the vertical and horizontal lines
of the logo.
6. Identify any uniquely identifiable lines such as circles, parabolas or exponentials.
7. For circles, transform a circular function to fit the circular features of the logo.
8. For parabolas and exponentials, use their corresponding coordinates and establish a quadratic or
exponential regression to find their appropriate functions.
9. Identify all domains and ranges of the functions to include in the piecewise function.
10. Compile the piecewise function.
