The COVID-19 global pandemic has disrupted everyday life for millions
of people around the world. Yet, Samaritan’s Purse continues to share
the eternal hope of the Gospel and to serve in Jesus’ Name. They want
boys and girls around the world to know that God loves them and has
not forgotten them during this time of fear and uncertainty. Children
need great joy now more than ever. Most of all, they need the hope
found only in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
MUCC looks forward to participating again with Samaritan’s Purse to
ensure a great Operation Christmas Child season and to share our love
of Jesus Christ with special children through this wonderful program.

which is relatable and are launching in
the fall when harvests are big. Luke 10:2
says, ’the harvest is plentiful, but the
workers are few’ and that’s what the

workers.”
The Harvest will meet Sundays during

MUCC Members Vote to Accept Contract to

Build Community Outreach Center
On Sunday, September 13, following the 11:00 worship
service, members of Monticello Church gathered (masked
and safe distanced) on the lawn for final discussion about the
plans under consideration for the new Community Outreach
Center to be built across the street from the church. These
plans include paving of the parking lot, kitchen appliances and
furnishings and will build a building that will be both ready to
use and that will offer options for future expansion as needed.
With the rising cost of building materials, the contract for
these plans was set to expire if not approved by the end of
September. Further waiting would most likely mean higher costs to build.
Clyda Johnson, Co-Chair of the Building and Futuring Committee, provided
information and fielded questions as church members discussed financing,
loans, and other pertinent issues. Following discussion, all members present
were given a ballot on which to cast their vote. When ballots had been counted,
the votes to accept the contract were 55 yea, 4 nay, a significant majority in
favor of moving forward with the building.
To date the contract has been signed, Monticello
Church has been approved for a loan from the Cor-
nerstone Fund, and construction will begin soon.
Thank you to everyone for your support, your faith
and for your continued help that is needed to make
this building a reality for our community. Please
keep this special project in your prayers.
Be on the lookout for information about our Capital
Campaign to raise the remaining monies needed that will be kicking off soon!

NEIGHBORS IN NEED
MISSIONS

Neighbors in Need (NIN) is a special mission of-

fering of the United Church of Christ that supports
ministries of justice and compassion throughout
the United States. One-third of NIN funds support
the Council for American Indian Ministry (CAIM).
Two-thirds of this offering is used by the UCC's Justice and Witness Ministries (JWM) to
support a variety of justice initiatives, advocacy efforts, and direct service projects through
grants. Neighbors in Need grants are awarded to UCC churches and organizations doing
justice work in their communities. These grants fund projects whose work ranges from direct
service to community organizing and advocacy to address systemic injustice. This year, due
to the Covid-19 pandemic, the elected officers of the United Church of Christ determined
that the highest priority for our churches was to offer relief where possible. Thus, they gath-
ered monies from a variety of sources, which included NIN, and formed a Covid-19 relief
fund.

Monticello UCC will receive the NIN offering on Sunday, October 11, 2020. Your support of
this UCC 5 for 5 ministry ensures its success and sustainability and is greatly appreciated.

World Communion Sunday offers congre-

gations an opportunity to experience Holy
Communion with the global community of
faith. The first Sunday of October has be-
Sunday, October 4, 2020 come a time when Christians in every culture
break bread and pour the cup to remember
and affirm Christ as the Head of the Church.
On that day, we remember that we are part of the whole body
of believers. Christians celebrate the communion liturgy in as
many ways as there are congregations. World Communion
Sunday can be both a profound worship experience and a time
for learning more about our wider community of faith.
