I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the 60-minute period, the students are expected to:

A. identify adverb in a sentence;


B. use adverbs in narration; and
C. appreciate adverbs in making a sentence and narration.

III. PROCEDURE
Preliminaries
 Prayer
The students will be requested to stand and listen for a prayer.
 Mood Setting
The students will be asked :
How are you today class? Are you feeling good?
Have you eaten your breakfast already?
I think you need some energizer?
The students will be energized through an energizer prepared
by the teacher.
 Classroom management
The students will be instructed to pick-up pieces of papers,
wrappers, litters and arrange the chairs
 Attendance
The teacher will ask who is absent in class today.
 Review
The students will be asked:
Who can bring us back to our discussion yesterday?
What significant thing have you learned about it?
 Motivation
The students will categorize the foIIowing words. They wiII
compIete the chart and write the words in each category in
accordance to their functions in a sentence.

A.1 ACTIVITY : The cIass wiII be divided into five groups. Each group wiII pick a
word and provide other words that are reIated or synonymous to their assigned word
through a graphic organizer Iike a web organizer.

The teacher wiII discuss about ADVERBS.
1. What is an Adverb?
- They modify verbs. Adverbs can also modify adjectives and other adverbs.
Types:
1. Adverbs of Manner - expIains how an action is carried out.Very often adverbs of
manner are adjectives with -ly added to the end, but this is certainly not always
ex. Slowly Rapidly Clumsily Badly Diligently Sweetly Warmly Sadly

 She passed the exam easily.


 They walk quickly to catch the train.

2. Adverbs of place

explain where an action happens. Ex. southeast, everywhere, up, left, close by,
back, inside, around.
 New York is located north of Philadelphia.
 They traveled down the mountainside.
 The treasure lies underneath the box.

3. Adverbs of Frequency

used to express time or how often something occurs.

Ex. usually, always, normally

 I can usually make the shot.


 I will always love you

4. Adverbs of Time

Adverbs of time, while seemingly similar to adverbs of frequency, tell us when


something happens.

 Harvey forgot his lunch yesterday and again today.


 I have to go now.
 We first met Julie last year.

5. Adverbs of Purpose

Adverbs of purpose, sometimes called adverbs of reason, help to describe why


something happened

 Ex. I was sick, thus I didn’t go to work today.


 I started jogging so that I wouldn’t be late.
 Because I was late, I jogged a little faster.
 Since it’s your birthday, I will buy you a gift.

 Each group is tasked to make a narrative story about their
assigned topics. (1 paragraph wiII do, Intro, MiddIe, End
 Narrations must have atIeast 5 adverbs (1 word for 1 type of an
adverb

IV. EVALUATION

In the following sentences underline the adverbs and state their kind.

7. Children usually rush about.

In 1 whoIe sheet of bond paper, construct sentences with the presence of
adverbs. There must be 5 sentences for each type of an adverb.
