IV. PROCEDURE
Daily Routine ( Pray, Greetings, Attendance,)
Introductory Activity: “As Quick As You Can!”
ACTIVITY Instruction: Find out how much you already know about this lesson.
Encircle the letter of the best answer. Take note of the items that you were
not able to answer correctly and find the right answer as you go through this
lesson. (This activity is shown or it is available in the learner’s module).
Activity 1: Learn Your History!
Instruction: Read the article below. After reading the article answer the
process questions.
Process Questions:
What do you think is the article all about?
Do you think the discovery of Fermat and Descartes helped us dealing with
geometrical problems?
What do you think Newton means when he said, “if I have seen further
than Descartes, it is because I have stood on the shoulders of giants?”

ABSTRACTION

(The teacher will discuss first the EXPLORE part of the module.)
“DELVING INTO THE CONCEPT OF DISTANCE FORMULA”
ANALYSIS (the teacher will show an activity that is posted in their module in the
EXPALIN PART “EXPLAINING THE CONCEPT OF DISTANCE
FORMULA” and it should be answered by the learners with the guidance of
the teacher)
Activity 2: Find the Distance!
INSTRUCTIONS: Answer the following questions below to verbalize your
understanding of geometry.
Using the distance formula presented earlier. Find the distance between
each pair of points on the coordinate plane.
1. (2, 5) and (4, 7)

2. (-1, 4) and (7, 10)

3. (3, 1) and (-2,8)

4. (2, -6) and (5,3)

5. (-1, -4) and (1, 8)

Find the midpoint of each segment with the given endpoints.

6. (4, 1) and (8, 2)

7. (3, 6) and (5, 11)
8. (-2, -5) and (4,9)
9. (-1, 7) and (4,-2)
10. (5, 0) and (0,10)

APPLICATION EVALUATING MY LEARNINGS ON THE CONCEPT OF DISTANCE

FORMULA

After all the activities you have done so far, it’s now time to check how
much you have learned from the lesson.

Activity 4: Map It Out!

General Instruction: Use a graphing paper in plotting the points that will be
given in the activity. You may use geogebra in doing the activity below.
On a graphing paper, draw a coordinate plane. Plot the points P(-2, 3) and
Q(8, 11). You may use the space below for your graph.

Get the average of the x-coordinates of the endpoints of PQ

Get the average of the y-coordinates of the endpoints of PQ

Compare the values you obtain in #2 to the coordinates of the midpoint (x,
y) of PQ

What statements could you make?

If the coordinates of the endpoints of PQ are P(x1, y1) and Q(x2, y2), how
would you get the average of the x-coordinates?

If the coordinates of the endpoints of PQ are P(x1, y1) and Q(x2, y2),how

Would you get the average of the y-coordinates?

Write the formula for the midpoint M of line segment PQ

ASSESSMENT Find the distance between each pair of points. Round your answer to the
nearest tenth, if necessary.
