SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEHATICS (GRADE 10)

I- OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

a. Illustrate remainder theorem;
b. Prove remainder theorem;
c. Solve remainder theorem and synthetic division on polynomials;

II- CONTENT

a. Subject Matter: The Remainder Theorem

b. Reference / Search Engine: Mathematics 10 textbook pp. 70 - 74
www. google.com
c. Material: Projector, Chalk & Board, Calculator
d.Values Integration: Cooperation, Developing Self-confidence
e. Time Allotment: 1 Session
III- LEARNING STRATEGIES

a. Preparation

Prayer
Checking of Attendance

b. Motivation

The teacher shall ask to the students about how to divide polynomials?

c. Lesson Proper

The teacher shall present to the students about the Remainder Theorem
The teacher shall asks the students to define remainder theorem
The teacher shows the example of remainder theorem
Example 1. Find the remainder when ( 5x2 – 2x + 1 ) is divided by ( x + 2 ).
Solution : a. Using the remainder theorem:
P(x) = 5x2 – 2x + 1, r = -2
P (-2) = 5(-2)2 – 2(-2) + 1
P (-2) = 5(4) + 4 + 1
P (-2) = 20 + 4 + 1 = 25

b. Using Synthetic Division

d. Application (Boardwork)

Use the Remainder Theorem to find the remainder R in each of the following.
1. ( x3 – x2 + 2 ) ÷ ( x + 3 )
2. ( x2 - 3x + 7 ) ÷ ( x + 5 )

e.Generalization

The Remainder Theorem is not applicable when P(x) is divided by (x – r) is = 0.

IV- EVALUATION

A. (5 points each)

Use the Remainder Theorem to find the remainder R in each of the following.

1. ( x4 - x3 + 2 ) ÷ ( x + 2 )
2. ( x3 -2 x2 + x + 6 ) ÷ ( x - 1 )

V- ASSIGNMENT

Use the Remainder Theorem to find the remainder R in each of the following

1. ( 3x2 + 5 x3 - 8 ) ÷ ( x - 4 )
2. ( x4 -16 x3 + 18x2 - 128 ) ÷ ( x + 2 )
3. ( x2 -3 x + 7 ) ÷ ( 5x + 2 )
