This is the 8th Kural in the ö©#²nºuÀ AvPõµ® - the chapter on
Knowledge of Absolute Reality.
¤Ó¨ö£ßÝ® @£øuø© }[P
The word @£øuø© means ignorance.
¤Ó¨¦ refers to rebirth, being born again and again.
Tiruvalluvar mentions, this rebirth as ignorance.
Because, rebirth - being born again and again, is caused by
ignorance.
Ignorance is the cause; rebirth is the effect. Only because of
ignorance, the Jiva is born again and again and, suffers in the cycle of
birth and death.
We have already learnt, a chapter on ignorance, known as
@£øuø©.
In this context, the word @£øuø© refers to ignorance about
oneself.
Why have I got this physical body?
Why am I suffering from these pains and pleasures of life?
Not knowing the reason for these facts, is known as ignorance.
Because of this ignorance alone, we develop bodily attachments
and worldly attachments. We have already learnt this.
¤Ó¨ö£ßÝ® @£øuø© }[P means,
with the removal of ignorance, which is the cause of rebirth,
]Ó¨ö£ßÝ® öŒ®ö£õ¸Ò Põs£x AÔÄ
What is knowledge?
Knowledge or AÔÄ is - Understanding the Ultimate truth (Absolute
reality), which is mentioned as ]Ó¨¦.
The word ]Ó¨¦ means mukti or moksha (liberation).
The reason for births and deaths is ignorance.
To get liberated from this cycle of birth and death is known as
moksha, which is mentioned as ]Ó¨¦ in this Kural.
We already saw that,
]Ó¨¦DÝ® öŒÀÁ•® DÝ® in the chapter AÓß Á¼²ÖzuÀ.
The word ]Ó¨¦ refers to shreyas, which is nothing but moksha.
That, which always causes goodness to the soul, is moksha.
We should have clear Knowledge about happiness, that is unmixed
with sorrow.
The happiness gained by this clear knowledge, is known as mukti.
This happiness alone, is the greatest happiness, that a human
being can experience in his life.
This ]Ó¨¦ or moksha is attained by,
öŒ®ö£õ¸Ò Põs£x.
Understanding the Absolute reality.
Previously, Tiruvalluvar said,
ö©#¨ö£õ¸Ò Põs£x AÔÄ.
Here, he tells öŒ®ö£õ¸Ò Põs£x AÔÄ. Both refers to the same
absolute reality.
öŒ®ö£õ¸Ò means, the ultimate, the most perfect, classic entity.
The word öŒ®ø© refers to that, which gives the ultimate greatness.
That absolute reality, which is capable of giving that ultimate
greatness alone is mentioned as öŒ®ö£õ¸Ò in this Kural.
What is meant by ö©#²nºuÀ?
Two things are happening simultaneously.
That is, when we know the absolute reality, ignorance gets
removed.
By the removal of ignorance, the Jiva gets liberated from the cycle
of birth and death.
Not only that, the Jivatma understands the Ultimate happiness,
that is beyond births and deaths, as its own nature.
We have to understand öŒ®ö£õ¸Ò Põs£x AÔÄ like this also -
that is - The Jiva understands itself as the ultimate principle, that is the
absolute reality.
By knowing this, The Jiva does not consider himself, to be limited
by body-mind complex.
The Jiva understands himself, as limitless, pure conscious
principle, which is beyond body-mind complex.
Thus, this Kural explains that, the removal of ignorance and gaining
of knowledge is alone ö©#²nºuÀ.
We have to gain knowledge and remove our ignorance.
The same idea presented in the second Kural,
C¸Ò}[Q Cߣ® £¯US® is repeated in this Kural.
