QUALITATIVE RESEARCH
PSYCHOLOGY 6 SEMESTER
2020
PROBLEM STATEMENT

The problem we found was the psychological effects that are occurring due to the isolation
by pandemic of covid19, the coronavirus disease 2019-2020 is derived from the
coronavirus disease that began in 2019 this is a disease that is derived from the acute
respiratory syndrome, sars-cov-2, was identified in December 2019 in the city of Wuhan,
capital of Hubei province in the People's Republic of China, reporting cases of people with
an unknown type of pneumonia, which was recognized as a global pandemic on March 11,
2020 by the WHO. This disease does not present successful pharmaceutical treatment, so
some of the effective public health intervention measures to avoid covid infection19
include social distancing, isolation and quarantine, but these measures have been
diversified in countries and their regions, However, these measures have been rejected by
the different populations, helping the virus to spread exponentially. In June 2020, Latin
America was considered the epicenter of the disease, as stated by BBC News (BBC News
World, 2020). 151,281, with recorded deaths of 781,123 and a total of 14,160,988
recovered, nationally there are confirmed cases 502,178, active cases 158,893, deaths
15,979 and recovered 326,298, in the department of Santander there are 11,332 infected,
with 437 deaths recorded, official data from the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of
Colombia, (Ministry of Health and Social Protection, 2020). Worldwide there have been
several problems in mental health such as synophobia that is related to xenophobia to refer
to the aversion to China and its inhabitants, studies conducted by the British magazine
Lancet that for the Latin American community the issues addressed were the fear and
loneliness faced because of quarantine which included previous medical studies such as
post-traumatic stress, anxiety and confusion and anger, published in the BBC News, (J.
Orgaz, 2020), reviewing historical data the antecedents of psychological impacts by
quarantine are negative, since quarantines carried out by viruses such as SARS, leprosy or
black plague which produced in people who went through them disorders of acute stress,
exhaustion, detachment from others among others is why our research question arose.

How do people perceive the psychological effects that the quarantine by covid19 has
generated in the city of Bucaramanga?
