IV. Procedure
a. BEFORE THE LESSON
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENTS’ ACTIVITY

A. Preparatory Activities
Greet the learners
 Good afternoon, class! Good afternoon, Ma’am!

Before we start the discussion may we all

stand for the prayer.

Call someone from the class

In the name…
Amen

Okay you may take your seat now.

Thank you, Ma’am!

B. Learning Cycle
1. Priming Activity

Okay so before we formally start with the

lesson, I would like to make you play a
simple game. This game is called Better
Together.

So before I started with the class, I gave

you one paper each. Now I want you to
open it and check on what is written on
the paper. After that, I want all of you to
stand up and go around the room and look
for the person who’s holding the pair of
the thing written on yours. First pair to
come in front and explain why their things
are better together will win the game.

3 2 1, GO! *Go around the room*

B. Analysis

Okay so we have a winner! Can you (Answer may vary.)

explain why you think these are better
together?

Thank you so much for your participation

in the game.

Actually, that game is related to the lesson

that we will be discussing today…

b. DURING THE LESSON

C. Abstraction

Today we will be discussing about the

Appropriateness of Assessment Methods.

Show Powerpoint Presentation.

Okay so first let me ask you, what do you Answer may vary.
understand when you hear or see the
word “Appropriate”?

Call someone.

Thank you for sharing your idea.

In other words, appropriate means
“nararapat” in Filipino.
The type of test should always match the
instructional objectives or learning
outcomes of the subject matter posed
during the delivery of the instruction.

But why does it have to be appropriate?

Any idea?

Call someone.
Answers may vary.
Thank you. So it has to be appropriate in
order to accurately assess the level of
learning of the students.

For us to understand better, let us discuss

about the different kinds of assessment
tools that are commonly used to assess the
learning progress of students.

1. Objective Test
It is a type of test that requires student to
select the correct response from several
alternatives or to supply a word or short
phrase to answer a question or complete a
statement.

 It is called objective because of

how items are scored. This means
that there is only ONE correct
answer in this type of assessment.
 Show photos for examples.

2. Subjective Test
It is the type of test that permits the
student to organize and present an
original answer.

 This type of assessment has no

specific correct answer and is
usually scored on an opinion basis
but there are factors that are
expected to be seen in the answers.

3. Performance Assessment
It is an assessment in which students are
asked to perform real-world tasks that
demonstrate meaningful application of
essential knowledge and skills. (Mueller,
2010)

4. Portfolio Assessment
It is an assessment that is based on the
systematic, longitudinal collection of
student work created in response to
specific known instructional objectives
and evaluated in relation to the same
criteria.
(Ferenz, 2001)

 It measures the growth and

development of students. You will
be able to see how much they have
improved.
 For those who do not know what
portfolio is, it is a purposeful
collection of students’ work that
exhibits their efforts and progress
over a period of time.

5. Oral Questioning
The most commonly used among all forms
of assessment where assessment data is
collected by asking oral questions.
 Engaging in a discussion.
 In this type of assessment, the
student’s ability to communicate
and express himself orally is very
essential.

6. Observation Technique

 The teacher observes how

students carry out certain
activities.
 There are two types of observation
– the formal and informal.

7. Self-report
The responses of the students may be used
to evaluate both performance and attitude.
Assessment tools could include sentence
completion, likert scales, checklists, or
holistic scales.

 Show photos for examples

So those are the 7 kinds of Assessment

tools. But the question is, how do we know
which one is an appropriate tool for an
assessment?

D. After the lesson

Do you have any questions? Answer may vary.

If there’s no more questions then it’s my

turn to ask. Yes, Ma’am.

APPLICATION
Can you repeat all 7 types of Assessment Answers may vary.
Methods? Objective Test, Subjective Test, Performance
Assessment, Portfolio Assessment, Oral
Questioning, Observation Technique, Self-Report

Now I will show you some examples of

assessment tools and you have to identify
the type of tool. Are you ready?
